Rove’s Honesty

posted by on February 9 at 13:36 PM

From, of all places, the Corner at the National Review:

According to a congressman’s wife who attended a Republican women’s luncheon yesterday, Karl Rove explained the rationale behind the president’s amnesty/open-borders proposal this way: “I don’t want my 17-year-old son to have to pick tomatoes or make beds in Las Vegas.”

I know that this makes me sound like an old man, but I detassled corn and made beds at a HoJo's , and I think it was good for me. And I didn't hate doing it, either.

Who knew Rove had a vagina!

He sounds like my mom.

If his kid were getting paid $18/hr to make beds in Vegas, I doubt he'd feel as bad about it.

The quote seems horribly out of context, but it reads that Karl doesn't want his son to be gainfully employeed. I thought neo-cons were in favor gainful employment for all US citizens... since people with a job are less likely to rely on the largess of the "Welfare State" they pay into.

However **yawn** to put the words back into context, it reads that he doesn't want his son to do a job where he will get dirty and sweaty... those jobs aren't for sonny boy there... jobs where a person gets sweaty and dirty are best done by immigrants.

Honest work for honest pay? The possibility of calloused hands? Naturally, such plebeian activities are below the Rove family.

Actually, it sounds like Karl is becoming a liberal elitist. Could a move to SF be far behind?

but like WOW, Karl Rove has a son? A woman actually let his sperm actually enter into her? Huh. What a strange world it is.

I'm with #3.

Why does old free-market Karl think his son would somehow _have_ to do anything? His son would still be free to be you and me, which is to say pursue all the unpaid internships within the Borg that he wants.

Catalina, I detasseled corn and I "walked beans" (basically weeding a soybean field). It was torture. But it was probably good for me too.

Oh Mark - detassling was FINE from about 7:36am -7:43am, when the sun was finally up, but not too hot yet, and the dew kept the corn leaves from cutting you. Sure, it was cold and damp, but that was better than when it got really hot and scratchy ;-)

It undoubtedly built some character for me, although I'm not sure what I did with it. I can't even begin to think how dissipated I'd be now without my manual labor days.

Don't be too surprised to see Rove's 17 year old son as the next U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington.

Jus' sayin.

Why isn't his son serving in uniform in Iraq?
