Why not deflect the horror of killing all gays and lesbians in utero with a little bit of humor?

This will be an interesting problem for the fundamentalists. What would Jesus do? Allow a gay fetus to be born or abort a gay fetus so that it will never live in sin. I think we all know what Jerry Falwell would do....

If they can turn The Gay off, then they should be able to turn it ON right? Who knows, maybe some day we will be able to pass on our Mo-ness and counteract all the homophobes out there. It's still sad that people could possibly someday make such a drastic change to their kids for no other reason than their own homophobia

These people can hardly argue about stem-cell research when they're injecting testosterone (if that's all....) into far-older fetuses. I mean, yeah, these people don't need logic, but I'm still young enough to be comforted by the idea that the rest of the world exhibits that virtue, sometimes.

No marital procreation certificate for having a gay kid. That'll be in the fourth proposition.

If we are trying to modify gay behavior in utero, who is trying to predetermine what human embryo is going to become a menace to society? Are there scientists working to find out which rams are going to turn out to be assholes? I think if one ram is banging another ram in the ass, who cares other than ram breeders and heterosexual rams who are being banged up their ass. Let's get some scientific studies on crime prevention in utero for future humans.

There's an interesting article from a gay writer in Time Magazine on exactly this. It has a slightly more positive spin on the subject -- take a look: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1582336-2,00.html

Sputnik, you make my head hurt. But so does this whole idea - the hypocrisy, the whole sci-fi-social-engineering aspect, that damn title. I'm a bio student - I don't like science based on falsifiable assumptions - and to me, the idea that homosexuality should/can be "cured" is stupid & dangerous. Take away that assumption, and you're left with, I dont know, science being done just for the fun of tinkering? Shudder.

I am very concerned about ethics in medical discovery at say --- BYU and Liberty Bell or Bob Jones U --- I believe right wiong moms would abort or worse, do chemicals to change the unborn.

The ultimate win over the homos.

If they are able to develop a genetic test for homosexuality, but no way to change it, I'll expect the Talibangical Christians will shove through a Constitutional right to an abortion so fast your head will spin.

William Saletan's piece about mandatory HPV vaccination in Texas is entitled "Crotch Shot." Apparently cancer, like homo-genocide, is a total laff riot.

I don't think you can put off scientific research for fear of the results--that tends to stunt progress. The scientific community ought to be researching the cause of sexuality. After all, there must be some reason why some people are straight and others are gay. The more we understand about what makes us who we are--and the more this understanding is based on sound, scientific study--the more tolerance there will be, not less.
