Arts HWP Website Seeks Petite Witty Favicon
posted by February 7 at 11:47 AM
onLook at your URL bar, to the left of the address. Notice what’s missing? The Stranger.com needs a favicon (or “urlicon,” if you’re like that). Anyone want to design one for us?
Entries should be 16-color, 16x16-pixel .ico files. Send them to editor@thestranger.com before noon on Wednesday, Feb 14. The winner will receive 5 days of Slog posting privileges (subject to editorial review). No copyrighted images, please.

And don’t bother sending us
this; several people already have.

is there a limit to the number of submissions?
hello and welcome to 1998!
I'm a late adopter, like I said.
I'm not sure if this preview will work, fingers crossed. But, something like this?

Or are wee going for wacky here?
No limit, I guess. Bring 'em!
Can't you just use some old headshot of Kathleen Wilson that you might have around?
Uh, I don't have the time (or skill) to design one, so allow me to just make a suggestion...How about a Ted "100% Hetro" Haggard pic?
Goatse, anyone?
@8. Heh. Brings back many unfortunate slashdot memories...
Why use the same one all the time? Why succumb to branding? Just take an interesting mini-crop of the Stranger Cover each week and make an icon out of that.
@10 agreed.
Or even having one for the Classifieds, Personals, Slog, Line Out, MainPage and Forums. ETC
@10 - Because browsers aggressively cache favicons and it wouldn't work.
I also don't have the time or skills to submit an actual favicon, but I would love it if you brought back the bald headed guy looking away that the Stranger used as an icon on shirts, etc. in the early years of publication-kind of like going old school for those of us who have been reading you for over a decade...
I Love IPA @13:
That was the first favicon I submitted...
Just use the 'S'. Having a random picture that no one can recognize doesn't do you any good. Instantly recognizable and instantly correlat-able is what you should aim for.
