Barak Obama doesn't care about black people.
Well, let's leave aside the fact that you legally can't run for president unless you're a natural born citizen, what does it matter?
I've got to take issue with this:
"Ronald Walters, who advised Mr. Jackson’s presidential campaigns, said Mr. Obama’s campaign “evokes something which is very much in vogue, this notion of diversity that is not rooted in a compensatory concept.”
“He’s going to have to win over some African-Americans,” said Mr. Walters, who is black and heads the African-American Leadership Institute at the University of Maryland. “They have a right to be somewhat suspicious of people who come into the country and don’t share their experience.”"
Do they, really? Isn't that what mainstream Republicans say when they're apologizing for the anti-immigrant far right in their party?
I think that they are welcome to ask him how he will address their concerns - but to characterize that as a right to be "suspicious" of him is unsettling.
Black Americans forgave Bill Clinton for marrying a white woman, maybe they'll forgive Obama.
I was reading some old comments on a web site regarding a women radio announcer (I went to school with her 1000 years ago) who took over a well known black community talk radio program in LA. Her dad was a well-known left wing black poet and her mom was well-known white beat poet. There were people who were unhappy about her handling of the program and then there was another large group (many of them the same), who said she couldn't do a radio program serving the black community because she "isn't black." Her life long history of involvement in community activism and hip hop didn't count for these folks. The even called her a mulatto and dissed the way she talked as "too white." I was amazed at how many comments there were in this vein from black listeners.
I was very surprised. But having seen this, I'm not surprised that Obama is a little vulnerable here.
I think it is smart to be skeptical of Oboma no matter what race you are. He is a
politician, for one, and an oily Democrat for two. The Dems are rather ineffectual and weak, even though they control the senate.
