This looks like sanctioned animal abuse to me. I'm sure the staff are all trained up on bird and rodent care. Were there fish, too? Did it stink?

I am currently in Spring Grove, IL and saw that place yesterday!!! INSANE! This area is a riot. The people still have hair from the 80's! Love it!!! The woman who rang up our groceries at Dominick's yesterday was straight out of a John Hughes film!!! Don't forget to buy Salerno butter cookies to bring back to Seattle!!!

I remember a movie called "Career Opportunities" where the main character worked in a Target that sold pets too. This always striked me as odd, because our neighborhood Target didn't sell animals. Just food for animals.

It was a pretty bad movie too.

Meijer is a huge presence in Michigan. It is both sometimes a curse and a blessing, but, since I left Michigan I miss Meijer more than any other local store. Now, when I find myself 1 can of paint away from finishing my home improvement project at 2:00 am I have to wait till morning. Never had to do that when there was a Meijer nearby.

Unlike Walmart (I hear from family who work there) that Meijer is a pretty great place to work. Besides being union they use local farmers for produce, offer great benifits and promote from within.

It is nice to have independant stores to shop at but when Walmart is killing them all off I am glad that when I go to Michigan to visit my family I can go to Meijer. When companies like Walmart are influencing retail and manufacture the way that they are it's nice to know that Meijer has chosen to stay regional, and keep up the standards that they were founded on.

Growing up in suburban Detroit in the 80s, Meijer Thrifty Acres was one of the few all ages venues we had at our disposal when we didn't feel like heading into Detroit (without our parent's knowledge) to go to City Club to get our goth on. It was surprisingly fun to hang out there after smoking a pile of weed.

The pet section at Meijer is hundreds of feet away from the food section. Which is fine with me. I went to Wal mart for the first time to buy gifts for Christmas (which were purchased after midnight because Kohl's was closed ) Wal mart doesn't even hold a candle to Meijer, even including mishandling animals.
