I love this Sharpton quote about Obama:

When asked about Obama’s likely candidacy, the preacher, renowned for outrageous self-publicising antics, shrugged: “Right now we’re hearing a lot of media razzle-dazzle. I’m not hearing a lot of meat, or a lot of content. I think when the meat hits the fire, we’ll find out if it’s just fat, or if there’s some real meat there.”

Listen for the meat.

Eli, I'm not sure if alluding to the Gin Blossoms is the way to kick off a new week.

NYT article quote: "While most Democratic leaders have not endorsed taking steps beyond seeking to pass nonbinding resolutions opposing the troop increase, pressure has been mounting in the past week from opponents of the war to take more direct and assertive action to block Mr. Bush."

It sounds to me like protests and pressure from the electorate is having an impact on the cowardly Democrats. Why is it that Bush can be so confident in the fact of declining poll numbers and decreasing power, yet the Democrats that have "political capital" are afraid to do what they were elected to do?

More:
"On “Fox News Sunday” Mr. Cheney acknowledged that Congress had fiscal oversight of the war but said, “You also cannot run a war by committee.”

Mr. Cheney said the Democrats would be undercutting the troops if they moved to block the president’s plan, adding, “I have yet to hear a coherent policy out of the Democratic side with respect to an alternative.”

You are contradicting your previous statement, Dick. It is true, you can't run a war by committee. It is Congress' job to give the Executive money (or not) and it is YOUR problem to find out how to spend it. IF you dont get what you want for once, you will have to draw up the plans to get out of Iraq.

One thing for sure, you can't blame Republicans for the lack of education about MLK.

One other news note. I went to the LA Times home page Sunday night, and whaddaya know, the featured picture was of Seattle's new sculpture park. The accompanying article noted the park's debut has provided a welcome respite from the viaduct controversy.

The thing I wonder about is any park's primary function as a respite from the hustle-and-bustle of city life. Don't get me wrong, I hope it succeeds and I can only imagine how great the installations look in person considering how good they look in pictures, but... Is it just me or doesn't building a park around an existing, honkin'-big avenue contradict the whole idea of a park? Okay, a sculpture park, to be precise.

I'm reminded a bit of the advertisement I repetitively see from the grotesque, sickening "Bodies" exhibit where the man is chopped in half.

Barack Obama's mentor in the senate was Joe Lieberman. And who in their right mind would get excited about any Democrate. Why have they not impeached Bush yet? Why are we still in Iraq? The Democrates could of run Hitler for congress, and probobly still won, the Republicans have botched it so bad.

@9,

How long have Democrats actually had control of the House and Senate? Like a week? WTF?

Resistance to Bush's Plan is NOT futile.

It's patriotic!

And it's amazing how much the Dems accomplished in ONE WEEK - more than the radical Red Bushies did in SIX YEARS!

Just goes to show how incompetent Bushies really are ...

keshmeshi, Pelosi has already stated impeachment is off the table. Time will tell what the Dems do, but I am very skeptical that they have the knowhow, spine or even the willingness to stop our march into war with Iran, Syria, etc. Weimar Democrates, that is how I look at them. If I am looking at this wrong, please enlighten me.
