Look closely at the top of this hospital and you will see a few of its patients: Operated by Jains (pronounced "Janes") and located in New Delhi, India, this very special hospital accepts only birds (the limit is 60 a day), and is open roughly between 8 am and 8 pm. The hospital has an intensive care unit, an operating room, and a general ward. On Saturdays, its roof is opened and recovered birds (usually pigeons) fly out and back into the dangerous "urban jungle." Though all birds are welcome, "the hospital reluctantly [treats] non-vegetarian birds." (A bird doctor treating...

Phew, yeah, good thing there aren't more Jains in the world. Imagine what a shithole this place would be if religion led people to actually respect all forms of life!

(Seriously, Nietzsche? Do you ever quote someone from the last century, much less the current one?)

That was truelly Awesome Charles . you seem like a really cool cat. metoo
I see a Spider in the House I pick it up and put it outside in the bushes and vines and all the while people around me are screaming
"why didn't you kill the spider"
"cause I don't want to"
"That spider could be poisonous"(whew never choose a word thats tricky to spell when your buzzed)

Usually I ask why didn't they get the spider and kill it if its so dangerous to them.

The answer is that they are afraid.

Why is it that people are so willing to kill but they are the ones so afraid?

And why is it that those who relish life in all its forms, yet can still snuff it, are not afraid and boldly let something live.

Philip Roth's "American Pastoral" gives a (revolting, and I have no clue whether accurate) portrait of a Jain. Brushing your teeth kills bacteria, and bacteria, too, are living creatures.

Accipiters are thugs? I'm no philosopher, but that seems like math just cuz you need some numbers to square the geometric shape up. Abstract, not real.

What's real? Animals, which with my consideration of them -- call it "friendliness", reveal themselves to be mind-blowingly arrayed with unique features that allow them to survive day to day and to make more of themselves. Just like humans! Amazing.

Too many people want all non-human animals to get out of the way, to disappear. I don't buy into the fear of anything non-Human. They're not my enemies. I took my hummingbird feeder in last night so the liquid could unfreeze. Me and the hummingbirds have something in common besides the feeder: We both know that it's fucking cold outside.
