That's one of the greatest paintings in the world, and it's disgusting that a moron like Steve Wynn gets to own it, especially since he punched a hole in it. He should be taken out and shot. I'm absolutely serious. Wynn is a scumbag, and he should at least have the decency to blow his brains out for what he's done (not just wrecking this painting, but for his whole lifestyle). The painting belongs in a museum, not a fucking casino in Vegas.

As for the hole, it's not the least surprising that old canvas stretched tight would rip in such a fashion.

Obviously Wynn just got fed up with Ephron's unfunny comedy stylings and rammed her pointy head through the canvas.

I'm with the art historian-- canvases aren't stretched taut enough for a stray elbow to puncture in the manner described. Go to an art store and bang a few pre-stretched canvases if you don't believe it-- you might dent the canvas, but not much more.

Such a great story. Wynn could star in a really readable roman-a-clef. But, as Nora Ephron was the set-up "witness," a wry and thin satire might be the best we get.
