Voting closed at noon in our highly influential and completely unscientific poll of your preferred Democratic and Republican presidential candidates. We had over 2,000 votes in the Democratic poll (which ran for five days) and over 400 votes in the Republican poll (which ran for one day). See the comments here and here for tons of thoughts from Slog readers about what it all means. Results below. Democrats: Republicans:...

Wow you think the Republicans would have at least one likable elect able candidate. One would expect that they had some governor stashed away kept separate from the clusterfuck that was the first six years of the Bush presidency under a Republican ruled congress. I mean Rudy has some serious cross dressing, gay loving, wife divorcing, mob connections skeletons in his closet that is going to be awesome when they come out and there is only one person in Washington DC that can out “John Kerry” John Kerry and that is Senator Walnuts McCain http://therealmccain.com/

I can't believe more people didn't vote Romney. There's no way he's getting the nomination, of course, on account of he's Mormon. But if he did, there's no way he'd get elected - on account of he's Mormon.

The Evangelicals will not elect someone who's a member of something they consider a cult.

Harry Reid is the President?

The GOP nominee is not going to be Giuliani or Romney or McCain. The GOP is still completely controlled by evangelical Christians, and they will choose the nominee. These guys have all been explicitly nixed. The nominee will be someone with rock-solid evangelical credentials who can pass James Dobson's vetting and (they hope) attract some crossover votes.

Remember how Bush ran in 2000? He was not far right; he was "compassionate conservative", an evangelical who cared, with a conservative resume and business connections. That smells like Brownback to me.

Newt is a potential dark horse, but I think he's too unstable, and too iffy with the Jesus people, to win; but maybe he can convince them that he will vote their way. That's always been Newt's chief skill: cynical opportunism, and salesmanship.

None of these other guys matter one way or the other. Duncan Hunter? Right.

I've heard people say that Dobson's going to end up picking Jeb. Lord have mercy.
