Slog - Comments on Seattle Greendrinks Tonight

The awesome, wonky, and awesomely wonky Sightline Institute (which I still think of as Northwest Environment Watch) will be hosting the monthly Greendrinks event at Vulcan's South Lake Union Discovery Center (101 Westlake Ave. N) tonight starting around 5:30pm. Come and talk environmentalism, sprawl, and transportation with some of the region's smartest enviro thinkers and activists, including Sightline research director and viaduct obsessive Clark Williams-Derry, whose collected analysis of Seattle's six-year-old viaduct debate can now be found here....

Although Sightline is a fine organization, I have a hard time with the "awesomely wonky" label at least when it comes to transportation.

This organization has a history of opposing Sound Transit and light rail. To this day they refuse to praise or even acknowledge Sound Transit. I don't get it. Yet they were lapdog supporters of the elevated Monorail despite its shortcomings in urban design and utility. Once again, I don't get it. Neither do they, I suspect.

I am always surprised that they post so infrequently on transportation issues given the other fine work they do on sprawl and the environment.

i'm sorry, but does anyone else find it sickly ironic that this is being held at Vulcan's "discover south lake union" center. They try to act like that place is a park or information center, but it's a sales center... and for what? All those buildings Vulcan is profiting off of while gentrifying SLU and contribuing to sprawl.

Hey, I have an idea! Let's spend twice as much as we need to on roads and build an underwater tunnel with no transit, no downtown exit, and further subsidize autos!
