I'm at the opening session of the new legislature in Olympia. It's all boring formalities, but there were some loaded moments. On the Senate side they swore in former GOP Rep. Rodney Tom as a Democratic State Senator (D-48, Eastside Seattle Suburbs). The Democrats now have a 32-17 advantage in the Senate after picking up six seats. I also saw former Rep. Ed Murray (D-43, gay marriage gay marriage gay marriage), get sworn in as a State Senator—sworn in by anti-gay marriage anti-gay marriage anti-gay marriage WA. Supreme Court Chief Justice Gerry Alexander. On the House side I watched them...

O.T. (sort of):

I hear lots of hand-wringing about how far behind the civilized world we are with transit, but no one posting on SLOG comes right out and advocates for the ST2 and RTID joint ballot measure.

I've got problems with ST2, and I've got concerns about RTID. What would the STRANGER think of hosting some kind of threaded newsgroup or something where a designated hitter for RTID/ST2 (that TCC flack Johnson perhaps) responds to a few questions from Joe Public?

I've got a couple of questions I'd like that guy to address. The devil is in the details with these things, as SMP proved.

My credentials: Cressona took some cheap shots at me, I responded to Cressona's questions and asked a few of my own about RTID. Cressona then disappeared into the ether. That suggests my questions were good ones.

Wow. I'm a New Yorker and I had no idea how lopsidedly Democratic WA state government is. With a Dem governor and huge majorities in both houses, why hasn't WA passed some gay marriage/civil union type legislation?
