Our age only has one memory. A Tacoma boy catches two flights to Texas sans ticket, sans detection, and what do we remember? A tower burns in Dubai, and what do we remember? Bush announces “the surge,” and what do we remember?

I think the more interesting part of the linked story is that Dubai - with all those skyscrapers, and all that money - doesn't have any sort of rescue services for emergencies in skyscrapers. Just shows that the U.S. isn't alone in being unprepared for completely predictable emergencies.
Isn't Surge some kind of energy drink?
There is a method of psychological conditioning that uses repetition of images and sound to construct a common reality. The footage of the twin towers was burned into all of us by an irresponsible media and now American history begins on 9/11.
Move over Pearl Harbor footage, D-Day footage, Hydrogen Bomb footage, and Viet Nam rooftop footage.
If Dubai had rescue services, they'd be for the building, not the virtual slaves who build them. Those men are completely expendable, and in fact disasters like this may help keep those who remain in line. Slaves, you ask? Well, yes; they are brought to Dubai on false pretenses, they cannot leave; they earn literally NOTHING after their expenses (their wages go to the coyotes who bring them), and they live in open sewers. There are two Dubais, and the glossy one in the pictures is only one of them. Posh Spice sitting in a beach chair is only 1% of the story.
Will in Seattle - Indeed it is and everytime I read it I think of that instead. Hah.
I never thought of Surge as an energy drink when it was around. A Mountain Dew rip-off, yes. It is described as an energy drink/citrus soda though by Coca-Cola. I know that Surge saw limited success in the 90s and is now pretty much Vault, also a Coca-Cola product. Perhaps Bush's next plan should be dubbed the "vault" into Iraq/Iran/Syria/Alaska.
Can they sue Bush for using their trademark?
Sounds fair to me ... maybe they could get back the $500 billion already wasted.
Surge also directly leads me to Slurm. Slurm is perhaps even more appropriate. Bush slurming into Iraq/Iran/Syria/Alaska seems rather fitting.
