How do you know it was a date? Or does "he took me to a movie" say it all?

So Dan,

You went to a movie with a priest adnd.. gasp, the horror, ...saw a movie and nothing happened.

You didn't know it was a date, your parents didn't and it sounds like the priest didn't either.

Could be that this guy was trying to counsel an obviously confused and disturbed kid.

What was the point of writing this? Aside than adding an additional lie to the daily pile of Dan Savage's self serving bullshit...

This is my fave beetles album too! Although there's too many identities to keep straight - Lennon, Billy Shears, Ringo, Sgt, Pepper, Frampton, McCartney.
Only a Zen master could fix that hole.

Well, let's just say the whole evening had creepy overtones. Including skinny dipping, at the suggestion of the priest. My dad was a Chicago cop, and I believe that this might have been my force-field. Or something.

He didn't counsel me. I wasn't that disturbed. And I hardly think suggesting that a priest who took an obviously gay teenager to the movies and skinny dipping might have had, oh, some sort of agenda... well, considering the hundreds of cases of priests abusing Catholic kids, it hardly seems like a reach.

Or, hey, maybe he was straight, not a pedo, and it was innocent. Or maybe he just wasn't that into me.

You went skinny-dipping with a young Mexican Priest? Some guys have all the luck. All of the priests I interacted with (and I was an altar boy also) were old, chaste, and overweight.

But I must say that if any priest had ever suggested taking me to a movie, camping, getting my hair done, etc, my uber-Catholic mother wouldn't have allowed it. Mass on Sundays and holy days, a bottle of scotch at Christmas, a ham at Easter, and that's about it.

I can't believe there are so many people defending Priests. I'm sorry, but after thousands (maybe more) of child molestation cases, that the rest of the priesthood had a hand in covering up, the spread of Aids and stds due to anti-condom stance, spewing hatred from the pulpit, forcing victims of rape and incest to bear unwanted children, and uhmm... I don't know the freaking childrens crusade I think it's fair to take a little "poke" at the institution.

GJAMESV..

Nobody has defended pedophiles priests.
The comments have been directed at Dans constant pattern of lying his ass off at the expense of others.

Oh please... Where exactly is the lie? Are you saying Dan didn't go see the movie with the priest or are you saying that you find the assumption of nefarious intent when a grown (and sexually frustrated) man takes a young boy out to see a tripped out drug influenced movie for no stated reason to much to swallow?

Get it swallow?

If it's a constant pattern and you have been keeping tabs then you should have a long list of offenses to share with us. And surely some court documents, as Dan has probably been sued at least once as a result of all the lying and defaming of others he has engaged in.

Do share.

I didn't disbelieve Dan or think the priest wasn't creepy--just had my curiosity piqued and wanted some more dirt. Skinny-dipping did quite nicely. Thanks, Dan!

This isn’t a production of “The Crucible” people it’s the slog. The man has not been named there is no legal charge being leveled and this is not some random drive by priest bashing. The post is in reference to the best Beatles album discussion. You know, a light fun little pop culture vulture discussion. So what is with the thought police routine? Could it be that you’re partaking in a little random drive-by Dan bashing? So forgive me if I don’t take your defense of priest or your call of bullshit on Dan all that seriously. What I was objecting to was the need to scoff at a gay man having his way the rep of the catholic priesthood. Their Lord certainly knows that they have been with us.

"Having his way with…" Bwhahahahaha...sob...

Where exactly could one go skinny-dipping in Chicago? Were there Rogers Park watering holes back in the 1950s that have since been filled in?

Perhaps it wasn't exactly a gay thing. Maybe the priest needed a kid with him so he could claim it wasn't HIS idea to attend a lame movie starring Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees.

Sigh.

Boomer?

Chicago is on a little lake called Michigan. St. Jerome's, my parish, is about two miles from that lake. At that lake there are beaches—Albion, I think it was.

And it was my idea to see the movie!

Billy Shears (Peter Frampton) attempts to kill himself by jumping -- out of a second-story window.

Somewhere a script supervisor is shedding a tiny little tear.

My partner's mother was from St. Jeromes! Went to school there, married there, buried from there - the whole nine yards. It's not only near the beach, it's near Sox Stadium. (also known as U.S. Cellular Field or Comiskey Park - even though that is strictly unofficial, just as some Chicagoans still refer to Macy's as Marshall Fields)

Not that any of this has any bearing whatsoever on the topic at hand, but I love to chime in with knowledge of Chicago's Croation parishes. I did my master's thesis on that topic!

(That last part is just a bald faced lie)

Sorry, Catalina, must be a different St. Jeromes. My parish was at Lunt and Clark, on the North Side. Nowhere near Comiskey Park. But near the North Side beaches...

I'm on Lake Michigan--amazingly enough, in Rogers Park, on Sheridan Road. And from Evanston all the way down to Hollywood Beach, I can't figure where a nude beach might be, or even might have been.

Was something back in the good ol' days, when everything was in black in white?

Posted by Boomer | January 7, 2007 9:39 AM

Damn! Now I'll have to go back and amend my non-existant thesis to include the non-Bridgeport St. Jeromes

People can go skinny dipping at regular beaches, Boomer. Can, do, have, did, done, etc. Jesus.

Part of the fun of skinny dipping is that you are naked where people aren't supposed to be naked, let alone with Mexican priests.
