Chow My New Favorite Fruit

onThis office has been known to obsess about fruit (see Honeycrisp Apple), and not just because we all are kind of fruity. I have a new specimen for all of us to try: The Cara Cara Orange.
It looks like a regular naval orange on the outside, but inside it’s pink like a grapefruit! I found it to be sweet and juicy, and the acid tasted more like grapefruit acid then orange acid. They originated in Venezuela, on a ranch, which is where I wish I was right now. It was a marvelous breakfast. They are available now at the QFC at Broadway and Pike, at the very least. Try one!

Ovio in West Seattle makes a good Screwdriver with these.
Oh that sounds wonderful! They should bring one to me at the office.
Have you tried blood oranges? The Spanish or Italian ones are much better than the California ones...
I was the first to opine on Cara Caras. http://www.thestranger.com/blog/2007/01/on_this_cold_winter_day
Angela, some would say that quantum mechanics prevents this from being the case. I will never surrender to your tyranny!
re: drinker @1 - check out the heirloom navels at Thriftway if you like a fancy orange. I remember them from last year, and eagerly sought them out this year.
they are the ones that have the ripetoyou.com stickers on them. a tower of them by the south entry.
I still say, check out the Honey Tangerines!
Oddly, they're even better if you peel them and let them sit out for a few hours. The skin hardens and when you eat it you get a crispy thin skin with juicy sweetness. Mmmmm.
meh.
mediocre flavor in my opinion.
the best orange in town is an heirloom navel from Frank's Produce in the market.
yo fruity,
shit a pit and shut the fuck up ya lil folic fairy
cara caras are my orange of choice for mixin' up might fine cocktails.
the almost salmon coloured flesh, paired with champagne or lillet blanc & frsh lemon, are classic combinations for midweek brunch.
i've been goin' cara cara craazy in the past party craazy weeks.
Sweet jesus, the grapes are awesome right now. Get some, you wont regret it.
