Bob Clark should have stayed in Monroe and emjoyed the magnificent world class sculpture and culture it has to offer.

Art criticism only rarely teaches us something about the actual creation, but reveals and says a great deal about the critic. In this sculpture, where some may see a lost innocence, or age reaching back to youth, or a desire to close the gap between parent and child, people like Bob Clark of Monroe, and Dori Monson and Ken Schram see pedophilia.

My, oh, my.

Wow, he's from Monroe, i'm totally shocked. This really makes me curious what the cultured citizens of Royal City, or Omak would think of the sculpture park.

One very important detail the letter writer got wrong: the $85 million was raised by SAM from donations and not taxes.

@4 - So you're telling me the redneck from Monroe didn't have hsi facts straight? again, shocked.

I really hesitated including "Monroe"--we don't do locations for letters in the paper (unless it's somewhere totally wild or obviously relevant). This time it seemed somewhat relevant, but it makes his comments easy to dismiss, doesn't it?

Some people that have problems with nude images of men seem to always reveal deep seeded issues. They are always going off about it. This guy is implying that nude images of women would be more acceptable and men are not. Sooo he has some uncovered issues in his head that are being revealed in his statement. The Father and son sculpture is a simple statement about a Father and son. This guy see something sexual and deals with it by displaying fear.

I don't get that last bit. What's the matter with having stilt walkers and Teatro Zinzanni performers at a ribbon cutting?

And what's with his trip about gangs and drug addicts? He is infected by fear of The Other, a psychological ailment that has plagued white men long before the sculpture park, Seattle or America existed.

He deserves Monroe.

Apologize for the repeat post.

I didn't need to see that he was from Monroe. I dismissed his opinions as soon as he made it clear that he equated nudity in art with sexuality.

You know, it's letters like that one that make everyone else appear sane.

oh, and guys, it's seated, not seeded.

He's right about one thing: There were a TON of limos there on Saturday. I saw Michael Moore, Cindy Sheehan and an aborted fetus get out of a black stretch Cadillac.

Actually, about $20 million came from city, county and state government, mostly related to the clean-up. The rest was private donations.

@6--his comments are easy to dismiss without knowing their geographic origin, although that piece of information is the icing on the gateau, as he would put it.

@9: I noticed his thing about the gangs and gunfights and assumed he must be a Belltown resident who knows something about the area I don't; it turns out he's just a douchebag from a cowtown making assumptions about the mean ol' liberal gang-riddled city. Next time I'm taking my limo through Belltown I'll be sure to duck lest I be mowed down by one of the gunfights!

Given the wonderful community of heavily armed rednecks, ex-cons, and livestock molesters they've got going out in Monroe, I feel a helluva lot safer living in Seattle. And I'm reasonably certain the per-capita crime data supports my assertion.

I'll make a deal with you, Bob. We won't come to Monroe if you stay the fuck out of Seattle.

@ 18

You said "douchebag". I'm banning you!

I wrote about the sculture park at horsesass and had at least one person raie the NAMBLA aspect. People can be really retarded.

This is what happens when SAM excludes wooden sculptures of eagles and bears carved with chain saws.

#1 Thank god he's from Monroe
#2 even if it was taxes, it wasn't HIS taxes anyway

The guy has some good points, but again, thank god he lives on Monroe.
