Then, as though from nowhere, a bona fide comet, a few degrees above the low horizon south of the Olympic range, looking bushytailed and sinking slowly, straight down into the black. A good 20 minute show was had. Overheard: "Have we ever had fun here around 5 o'clock before?"

A higher elevation would definitely be better, since it would be higher above the horizon and visible for a bit longer after it starts getting dark, so the tail should stand out quite a bit more.

If you're going to the passes to ski/board tonight you should probably have a terrific view of it around 5:30 - 5:45 p.m.
