I Repeat

posted by on January 19 at 9:25 AM

Give the money to 520.

Shut the viaduct and, you know: see what happens.

I also still kind of like the idea of just putting the elevated up for a vote.

Oh and Governor Gregoire is Mayor Nickels. And Mayor Nickels is Joel Horn.

San Francisco did this with both the Embarcadero Freeway and the last mile or so of the Central Freeway and life did not come to an end.

The Embarcadero Freeway was almost identical to the viaduct and the Central Freeway extended its ramps into the middles of the city. Now the SF waterfront is beautiful and the neighborhood formerly under the Central Freeway is undergoing a renaissance.

How to handle freight traffic from the port, for economic reasons, does need to be considered but I have never noticed a large number of trucks on the viaduct. I think the access to I-5 and I-90 is much more important and needs improvement.

I remind you all, that West Seattle, unlike other parts of the city, has really only one way to get out: The West Seattle Bridge. From there, we have two choices - the Viaduct or the Freeway.

And don't hand me the surface street option, because it is not a viable option.
* 1st ave - prone to clusterfuck and goes thru Pioneer square which really only has one car lane heading North/South.

4th Ave - backside of the Stadium, but on the other side of the train tracks. Prone to clusterfuck, especially when the cops try to direct traffic during events.

And remaining streets 6th Ave/ Airport Way, sort of dead end in Chinatown. They are not thouroughfares.

and B: how do you reconnect with 99?

I know it's really nice for a lot of you that this isn't your problem, but for a lot of people, it is. Give us some real options if you want us on your side.

Nobody cares about West Seattle anymore. You guys killed the monorail, live with the results.

I'll be laughing at you as I walk to work from Fremont.

Joel Horn is a lot cooler than Mayor Nickels. Mayor Nickels is a lot fatter than Christine Gregoire.

The more isolated West Seattle will become the better. Stay the hell out!

Grant,

I agree that Joel Horn is a lot cooler than Mayor Nickels.

Although, neither one of them has returned my calls in over a year.

wsp @3: What is your preferred option that is workable for West Seattle?
