It astonishes me that the legislature in North Carolina would think to pass a law outlawing, specifically, castration. Those good ol' boys must have been pretty afraid for their maleness.

Now THAT is the ultimate hand job.

Sidney, unfortunately manual casteration is an all to uncommon occurance in our cities and our small towns. Nearly one in several men suffer this form of violence from wives, lovers, or angry apes. But by talking about it openly with our neighbors and friends we can fight this scourage on our homes and communities.

They actually have a "malicious castration" charge on the books? Dude. That's intense.

I'd bet money that the law was put on the books as an anti-lynching law. Lynchings often involved castration or other mutilation of victims, and so this law might not be about NC's fear for its own maleness as much as a feeble attempt to rein in the Klan.

Next time he'll remember to wear his gloves.
