it can't be serious. dude was about to crack up the whole song!
I agree. Has to be a joke.
Please, let it be a joke.
Okay, who is the one fag God hates? Who is it? Come on raise your hand?
But just reading through any church hymnal you find a treasure trove of gay porno movie titles.
Notice the official New Life Ministries logo in the lower right hand corner? Evidence that it's real.
Of course I suppose that would be fairly easy to put in, but the video has pretty good production values besides that, like the quality of the photography. If it's a joke it's a pricey one.
the pink shirt is right on the money
Oh Dan - this link was right in the comments under your "pink bows" post.
Hm... I missed it. Thanks, Matt.
Oh, and maybe God hates that fag with the pink bows on his stockings and panties? Is it him?
Go to youtube and search for "Christian Rock Hard"
the lyrics of the first verse makes me think he is thinking about "laying" with a man--and he doesn't want to get hated on, so he is praying for strength to resist his man-love urges....
He has to be one of those "cured" queers. He should jet on down to Colorado Springs and give the Rev. Ted Haggard a hand in his fight with the Devil.
I assumed this was a joke - how could it not be? - but the more I look into the various related Web sites, the more confused I get. If it's a joke, it's all very well done. If it's not, I am very, very scared.
It's gotta be a joke, and a funny one. ("No back door..." "...get on your knees...") But some will take it seriously, so does it really matter?
God seems to hate an awful lot of people these days.
It's real; check out the website - some very frightened, sad, people.
C.H.O.P.S is the powerful new program developed by Christian Youth expert Donnie Davies. C.H.O.P.S stands for CHANGING HOMOSEXUALS into ORDINARY PEOPLE.
If you have been having feelings that you DO NOT want to have towards people of the same sex as you, then this is the program for you.
If you've been acting on those same feelings, then this is DEFINATELY[sic] the program you've been looking for.
"To enter Heaven, there's no back door." Brilliant!
I just went to the lovegodsway website and they are saying Oscar Wilde was a "reformed homosexual?" Huh???? Someone needs bent over and have about 9 inches of love inserted.....
Kansas is a "Gay Band"?
If you're a fag he hates you too.
Holy goddamn motherfucking shit ass cunt motherfucker. That's the most anti-Christian thing I have ever, ever heard.
Wow.
This has to be satire, like a crasser Sasha Barron Cohen?
I've never laughed and barfed at the same time before.
Thanks for sharing.
This is either the most thoroughly constructed joke I've ever seen, or it's for real.
In which case, I think Donnie is about to have a big probelm with Jay-Z.
There's a similarly bafflingly plausible series of adaptations
of Jack Chick tracts that always skirts the line between is-it-for-real and outright parody. Somehow it's got the Jack Chick seal of approval -- somehow the Homosexual Reformer blowing his two young charges sneaked by the crack screening board, I guess.
Right Wing Kristians aren't good at irony...some of them are good at ironing, though...
the Fred Phelps group pickets with these really distubingly graphic signs that have stick figures buttfucking each other; try explaining that to your 8 year old...
Love God's Way's logo looks a bit like a fiery asshole.
I researched his site, apparently not a joke
Ok, i thought this was a joke too, but check it out....He has a website so it must be real!
After attending Whitworth College I can tell you that this is what most Christians are thinking. And they seem to have the real problem with the guy fucking guys, not so much concern with the women messing around.
Aw c'mon, this ain't serious. But it's very clever. The patently homoerotic visuals in the video, the tongue-in-cheek lyrics, the mile-long list of "gay" bands on the website (incl Metallica and Judas Priest) ... This seems (intentionally) just enough to keep us guessing. The real deal is stone-cold stupid and lame.
And, um, courtesy of eveningservice.com:
"We live not too far from the chemical plants in Baytown and sometimes being so close to that kind of industry creates intense self-reflection, which is what we are all about. "
The really fucked up thing (if you can pick just one) is that the logo for "Love God's Way" is a direct rip off of the one for "God's Love We Deliver." For the 1 person out there unfamiliar with God's Love, they deliver hot, healthy meals to homebound HIV and AIDS patients. Despite the fact that I am a pacifist, that is just asking for an ass whoopin' in my opinion.
Thanks for the credit, Matt from Denver. I included the link in three different posts at SLOG last night when I saw it for the first time at Pams House Blend.
It has also been featured at Joe.My.God
Just trying to share the love with my leader, Mr. Savage, the king of the...eh...gays.
>the logo for "Love God's Way" is a direct rip off of the one for "God's Love We Deliver."
toungues *firmly* in cheek
I was sure this was a joke, but his MySpace page seems very real - he has a lot of Christian friends. But why would a reformed gay wear a pink shirt?
It reminded me of the video from the Office (British) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ePGKoG4vlw
which is neither about religion or gays, but pretty funny.
I dont khnow what to do. It totally puts me on the floor laughing.
But then, every time I hear a young earth creationist talk about the world beinig 6000 or 14000 years old, I think they are joking too.
I call bullshit: this is a brilliant, well studied Stephen Colbertization approach to the ex-gay agenda.
If he's a youth pastor, where's his church family website?
Also, the registration for these websites are by proxy.
Finally, the html source for these websites reveal hastily assembled code that would be difficult to frequently update or modify.
Of course it's a joke. He lists Frank Sinatra under gay bands -- how could it not be a joke? Also, on his Web site, he says that he (I'm paraphrasing here) doesn't advocating sending all gay people to prison, but it would give them an opportunity to think.
The problem isn't that he's playing it with (pardon the expression) a straight face, but that it's only marginally funny
If it's a joke, how is he funding this? By ripping off real Christians?
Hey, that WOULD be funny. That would immediately place this in contention as one of the greatest hoaxes of all time. Imagine pretending to be a "reformed" ex-gay, setting up a fake ministry and soliciting money from real fundies for the purpose of putting out fake videos.
Thanks for the laugh!
Were there any women anywhere in the video--I think all the supporting characters were men.
Is this supposed to help encourage me to go for women or encourage me to be celebate?
it's not funny either way
Well, we must have done something right if it was real....all the sites are down, maybe we crashed his servers. :)
The inevitable MySpace page - unlike all his other stuff, it's still up:
It's DEFINITELY a joke. The sites are professionally done with unprofessional content. A real organization would have a phone number and an address, not just a gmail account. The band site would have info about its members. There's not a single Bible verse quoted on any of the sites, and there are pictures of rosary beads. Most ex-gay organizations are evangelical, not Catholic.
Also, there are several little things that make me think it's a joke by someone who knows the evangelical world inside and out. If you read Davies' bio, he says his father was an "Anabaptist in Houston." There are very, very few people who would describe themselves as Anabaptists in Texas or Louisiana. Organizations like this wouldn't discuss corruption and scandal (and link to the Wikipedia entry on "Ted Haggard") in the GOP. No self-described reformed homosexual would list Oscar Wilde as a hero. Cyndi Lauper as a "safe band"? Lots of hipster indie bands that most evangelicals have never heard of? The band is called EVENING SERVICE (which may be the funniest double entendre ever)? Puh-lease.
Just this past Sunday, our choir sang,
"I will arise and go to Jesus,
He will embrace me in his arms,
In the arms of my dear Savior,
O there are ten thousand charms..."
I mean, really.
Oh, and I hope it's a Colbertian (Colbertite?) farce too, financed by religious groups. Yes indeedy.
I think I worked at a summer camp with this guy. Total closet case. Everyone knew something was up. Back then self titled camp nickname was "moose".
My guess is the one fag God hates is the one singing about his hatred of his creation.
Poor, sad, pathetic, and not particularly talented little thing!

he should be shot.

The fact that he was wearing a pink shirt and his mustache was a little smudged makes me think this is a joke. Especially since the chorus is a little too awkward to really match the music.
I haven't seen a website so perplexing and hillarious to so many people (including myself) since www.blackpeopleloveus.com
If you google the man. HE is a "reformed homosexual"
We ALL should sack this video and hit 'Flag as Inappropriate' and then check off 'Hate Speech'!
Let's get em' to remove this crap! Parody or no parody, it has to go!!!
God just hasn't met the right fag yet.
I think it's a joke. As others have pointed out, there are no Bible verses, neither is there a physical address. The major tipoff, though, is that, under "Gay Bands," he lists Morrissey, followed by (?questionable?).
And compare lovegodsway.org with the pros at http://www.exgay.com/ or http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/rossuk/h-exgay.htm
Those are the scary fuckers.
Has anyone emailed this guy to get "help"?
Look at the expression on the engineer toward the end, during the "he hates you too" refrain. That, coupled with all the other evidence, seems like a pretty clear indication of a savvy satire.
Phillip M @50 - I had a Christian camp counselor named Moose! Did you work at Camp Sambica on Lake Samamish by any chance? He had a assistant counsellor named "Lucky." I can't remember what moose looked like though - it was back in the early 90s.
Its gotta be fake. As evidence, I offer this link.
Seems to me he is singing the lines
"God hates a fag. God hates fags"
And what is he tempted by? Is he admitting he has some desire to be with men.
Anyway Creepy has a new definition.
* C: Can
* H: Homos
* O: Opt
* P: (for) Pussy?
* S: [long, long pause] Sure...
Has anyone else noticed that one of the "songs" at evening service's myspace page is a butcherization of The Psych Furs' "Love My Way"?
"Morton Subotnick"?
OK, it's a fake, then.
Anyone who thinks Sister Davies "performance" is a joke, please see his site.....Sadly, it's no joke....
http://www.lovegodsway.org/DonnieDavies
I have to weigh in on fake...its just too fucking funny...coupled with all the other evidence brought up by other posters...
still...kiiiinda messed up
good thing im a big lesbian and not a fag...god doesnt hate me...he wants to watch!
The video, the site, the my space page. It's ALL a joke. The lyrics, as mentioned, have all sorts of not so subtle homoerotic imagery. The video has them too (the pink shirt, moustache, the candles, guys holding hands). And the list of gay bands? Please. It's hilarious!
It's obviously (very) biting satire aimed at the Religious Right. The fact that people are having such a hard time telling it from the real thing makes its message even more relevant (and ingenious)!
After debating the 'real vs. fake' issue all day I gave the video a second look and it's clearly a fake. It's also clearly the funniest Christian music parody ever. Kudos to the creators of this awesome hoax.
Really, really awesome fake. Although it would be even funnier if we can get evidence of someone accepting it for real.
1. Prayer Warriors
2. God hates a fag
3. ...
4. Profit!
Here is his myspace site
http://www.myspace.com/eveningservice
It's so exciting to be thanked by Dan Savage. But I must say I'd like to be at little more at-risk than I currently am.
I think/hope the video is a fake.
"Is it fake?"
No, no, of course it isn't!
I mean, what's "fake"?
This is the best thing since KLF. Hooray for us!
Definitely fake but hilarious. The website http://www.lovegodsway.org/WhyNow has a link to Ted Haggard's wikipedia page and puts down the republican party and there is a picture of a woman holding a rosary. (I think for a lot of evangelicals, praying to Mary is on par with homosexuality). Plus googling any of this stuff returns nothing except for the website itself.
Awesome though, especially if it was funded by evangelicals.
Definitely fake and very hilarious. The list of gay bands has been updated to include Frank Sinatra and Ravi Shankar. The list goes on and on... Also, Cindi Lauper is on the list of "safe bands".
The singer also informs us:
While I'm not advocating jailing all Homosexuals, I do think it would benefit them greatly. It would be for their own good. When a person is forced to think they will generally be able to see their problems and solve them by themselves.
Definitely fake. Notice you never see anybody playing their instruments, and that's probably not his voice. He probably has lots of (faggy?) friends who do music and video stuff who helped out for free, hence a fairly professional look. I bet many Phelpsian Phundies think its serious, many of them even think that the Onion and Colbert are serious.
I'm anxiously waiting his tearful confessions of having 'strayed from the path of rightousness' and 'layed down with men'...
You know it's coming...
This unhealthy preoccupation with gays has littered the shoulders of the 'path of rightousness' with many 'men of god'...
@53 Free-speech actually protects the things assholes say as well as the things you wanna hear. Which is pretty cool, actually.
I can't tell if it's fake or not. Coming from a long line of Republican, Christian Fundies myself it's hard to tell. (I'm agnostic). Sometimes I've seen things that I'm absolutely POSITIVE are fake and they're just not. So who knows...
If God hates a fag why would a homosexual even want to be a friend of God since he is hated already. I don't know what Bible Donnie is reading, but I never read that God hates the person, God only hates our sin. I certainly hope this is a joke, Donnie is giving Christianity a bad name.
hey #53 i totally disagree with mr davies, but i'll defend to the death his right to say it, beating all people that want to shut him up along the way.
but seriously, Davies isn't fooling anyone but himself. I'll bet he just joined the ministry to get easier access to lil' boys.
Nice work, stloup77 at #36 and 'actually an evangelical' #43.
Yep, it's fake.
Fake or not, go read the full lyrics, if you're interested.
MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/donniedavies
Personal site/testimony: http://www.donniedavies.com/Testimony
This is real, folks! I left Sagemont Baptist Church in South Houston (same place as this guy!) in 2002 when I heard a Bible study professor say to a class of ~150 adults, "We should change the laws so that homosexuals can be executed like Levicticus orders." I stood up and shouted something about "Hitler would *love* that" and I was virtually mobbed by angry over-50s!!
Houston Baptists are a fucked up lot.
At the time of posting this is the only place you can still watch this amazing video...
This reeks of hoax, check out this actor in Dallas, look familiar?
Joey Oglesby - Kim Dawson Agency
No way is this serious... for parents he has a link of "Gay Bands" which includes "Marilyn Manson (dark gay)". Come on.
As real as bonzai-kittens..
