Hey, that WOULD be funny. That would immediately place this in contention as one of the greatest hoaxes of all time. Imagine pretending to be a "reformed" ex-gay, setting up a fake ministry and soliciting money from real fundies for the purpose of putting out fake videos.

Also, there are several little things that make me think it's a joke by someone who knows the evangelical world inside and out. If you read Davies' bio, he says his father was an "Anabaptist in Houston." There are very, very few people who would describe themselves as Anabaptists in Texas or Louisiana. Organizations like this wouldn't discuss corruption and scandal (and link to the Wikipedia entry on "Ted Haggard") in the GOP. No self-described reformed homosexual would list Oscar Wilde as a hero. Cyndi Lauper as a "safe band"? Lots of hipster indie bands that most evangelicals have never heard of? The band is called EVENING SERVICE (which may be the funniest double entendre ever)? Puh-lease.

This unhealthy preoccupation with gays has littered the shoulders of the 'path of rightousness' with many 'men of god'...

I can't tell if it's fake or not. Coming from a long line of Republican, Christian Fundies myself it's hard to tell. (I'm agnostic). Sometimes I've seen things that I'm absolutely POSITIVE are fake and they're just not. So who knows...

This is real, folks! I left Sagemont Baptist Church in South Houston (same place as this guy!) in 2002 when I heard a Bible study professor say to a class of ~150 adults, "We should change the laws so that homosexuals can be executed like Levicticus orders." I stood up and shouted something about "Hitler would *love* that" and I was virtually mobbed by angry over-50s!!

Houston Baptists are a fucked up lot.
