that would be some pretty cool youtubage material if those tapes are sitting on a shelf somewhere. :)
OR you could hold some arbitrary contest and send the winner(s) to australia with cameras with a mission to infiltrate and infuriate. that'd be pretty sweet.
Who and what won the Best Video Grand Prize?
This was before my time, but I'll ask some of the (even older) old-timers...
here's some ancient RW seattle gossip:
steven, alternately known as "the one that might be gay," "the black one," or, ultimately, "the one that bitch slapped his castmate on t.v.," came and hung out at the sub pop offices for a bit, under the guise of "interning."
if memory serves correctly, he was an idiot.
the RW crew also was tres miffed that they were not permitted to bring a camera crew to the sub pop 10 year anniversary party, held that year at the showbox.
we did, however, grant them interviews with some of the artists that played that year (afghan whigs, tad, murder city devils, rebecca gates, godheadsilo). somewhere in the mtv archives there exists hilarious footage of greg dulli and tad absolutely raking a couple of those kids over the coals.

Tad Doyle raking kids over coals ... this, I would pay to see.
greg dulli makes me all wet down there.
Damn! I used to have access to the MTV footage vault. Had I only known..
the real world IS idiotic, but the Seattle season was incredibly entertaining...
The only real world I ever watched was the one in New Orleans my sophmore year of high school, and that was only because I was major crushing on Danny in all his gay-boy-next-door adorableness.

Whenever people talk about the Real World, I talk about RW Seattle and all the wonderful shenanigans I witnessed and heard about. It makes me proud.
