As I reported in this week's paper, City Attorney Tom Carr's letter expressed concern "that the new legislation could effectively eliminate musical shows available to persons under 21" and suggested requiring that minors be excluded from shows "or effectively segregated" from drinkers after 11 pm. Today, Mayor Greg Nickels followed up, "oppos[ing] provisions in the Liquor Control Board's proposed legislation that would limit the ability of clubs in Seattle...

SD - Erica is correct, the Mayor's nightclub ordinance is silly. There are plenty of laws on the books to deal with the problem venues out there. In fact, Erica should prove this by doing a public records request for the files of Larry's or Mr Lucky's. What she'd find would show that the LCB, SPD and SFD found many laws being violated at both clubs and just walked away. If they would have done their jobs and enforced the laws already on the books, these places would have been closed. Instead they failed the public and now the electeds, instead of getting the law enforcers to do their jobs want to create new laws. More layers of regulation isn't what's needed. Get rid of the ludicrous good neighbor agreements, get rid of the stupid nightlcub ordinance and enforce the laws on the books.
