You guys are crazy. That is most definitely not him.

Different eyebrows. Similar, but different chin. Not the same guy.

Dan, thanks for your obsession--it's saving the rest of us a lot of time! But I think Davies and Quillen aren't the same person.

And as for Mika...I love him.

I've never been convinced that they're the same person. Hell, Davies looks younger. And not to blow anyone's mind, but is the guy in the "Amazing Day" video the same guy in the "The Bible Says" video? Even they look different.

But... how come Quillen and his agent aren't returning phone calls? If he's not Davies, you would think he'd take the time out to issue a quick "Nope, I'm not him."

Not so much in love with Mika.

Yeah, why would a struggling actor want to prolong people's interest in him, and keep them coming to his Web site? Can't imagine.

Quillen's forehead is bigger, even when you take the different hairstyle into account...

Yep, they're not the same guy. Levislade is right - I imagine Quillen is going to ride this all the way to another brown-face, towelhead improv gig.

The eyebrows look wrong, eh? I wonder, might there be some way in which a trained actor could alter his appearance so as to make his eyebrows look thicker?

Nah, they wouldn't teach weird stuff like that in theater school.

Dan, for someone who claims to be "obsessing" over this, you sure don't seem to be reading the comments we've been leaving you.

YHBT. HTH. HAND.

Wrong chin, wrong forehead, wrong nose. That's more than theater makeup can do.

Hey, Robotslave...

I'm convinced it's a hoax -- like I said. All that remains to be determined is who exactly is being hoaxed the mostest. Is he fundy with a sense of humor saying things he actually believes using humor? Or is he fag making fun of fundies be completely embracing their arguments, song stylings (such as they are), and BMIs?

His "thyroid condition" is clearly a ruse as well. He's simply making the obvious connection about not being able to necessarily choose who you are -- fat or gay -- and yet facing ridicule and discrimination.

Dan:

You still seem to be closed to idea that maybe, just maybe, the joke is partly on people, homosexual or not, who are predisposed to be outraged at evangelical christians.

And hey, why does the guy have to be a "fag" to be "making fun of fundies" in this manner? Can't your world-view make room for the possibility that there are straight people out there who might do this? Or gay and straight and none-of-the-above people who think that both fundamentalist bigots and easily outraged liberals are amusing?

Fnarf:

Let's make a little wager, shall we?

If Todd isn't Donnie, then you win and I have to admit you were right, in public, on SLOG.

If Todd is Donnie, on the other hand, you have to admit that you're an insufferable internet know-it-all who relies too much on Google and Wikipedia and not nearly enough on actual sense, learning, or experience.

robot:
I thought i was mostly agreeing with you. I think he's fucking with the blogosphere while making fun of fundies.

I didn't think it was funny, but perhaps I should watch the video at normal speed instead of really really choppy. I may be missing something.

I've not seen Borat yet, and I will think about what you said about more subtle satire, which is my favorite to use myself, so yeah.

So I checked out Mika. Good song/video, and now I know that Dan is on Bel Ami's e-mail list, like fer sure.

As to Donnie Davies, 1) no they're not the same person and 2) it has to be some kind of post-ironic fake out. Listen to his diction and inflection; it's just too cheesy even for the hare-brained fundies.

I prefer Betty Bowers and BASH (Baptists Are Saving Homosexuals), where even Preznit Bush is suspected of being a homo.

She even has an Ex-Negro Ministry. Praise!

The unfortunate thing is that if he's a real Christian, he's too unsubtle to be palatable to Evangelicals. If he's a satirist, there is not enough subtext to be effective. If he's a comedian, he is too unfunny to warrant laughter. I'm not sure why he's getting all this attention.

As a faggot who is a former Evangelical Christian and music minister, I can say unequivocally that, whoever he is, he executed this entire think poorly. He is convincing neither as a Southern minister, as a musician, nor as a reformed homosexual.

Real Evangelical Christians are far more deceptive, menacing, and seductive.

P.S. Davies' passing resemblance to our own doughy, fundie psycho, Mark Driscoll is even more disturbing.

I'm impressed "Donnie" managed to keep so many people confused at the start. Sadly, I think he's jumped the shark with this video. The *long* pause after thanking Andrew Sullivan for (ahem) "gettin' behind me" leaves plenty of room for a rim shot and a laugh track. And the analogy between genetic obesity and homosexuality (already mentioned in Doug's comment) steers this ship out of "he didn't, did he?" and straight into sympathetic satire.

Maybe the clued-out backlash was just too much for Donnie, but I think the fun is over.

Does anyone know of a mirror to the music video? I know the Evening Service says they're working on reposting it, but surely somebody posted it elsewhere(?). Help us, Dan. We need the Good Word.

Different ears = different people. Dan, were you the one that started that "kid from Doogie Howser is Marilyn Manson" rumor several years ago?

This is a hoax, but a good one. Kudos to Mr Quillen

Dear Dan Savage, you decent Christian,
Frank Sinatra gay-themed singer? Cyndi Lauper? Thanks to Andrew Sullivan the good Christian? Oh come on. It's NOT A HOAX, it's a satire! The tone is all satiric and they're not trying to fool anyone. The fact that people believe it's true says more about them than it does about this piece of brilliance. When he's holding hands in prayer at the beginning? That there's no back door to heaven? Come on... anyone who believes this is truth deserves a visit from Ali G tomorrow.
