Donnie Davies: New Video… And, Yes, Even I’m Pretty Sick of Donnie’s Shit At This Point

posted by on January 26 at 13:57 PM

He claims he’s being attacked for being overweight. He’s not—uh, he’s not being attacked for being fat, although he is, you know, fat. He insists he’s for real and soon all will be revealed.

My thoughts? Methinks the lardy doth protest too much.

Anyone recognize the barren cityscape behind Donnie?

Forget all the gay conversion/overweight talk...he said HE CAN DUNK A BASKETBALL!! Now that is crazier than any of the other claims!!! Dan will go down on Lynne Cheney before that happens!!!

It ain't Chicago, as I'm sure you, Dan, already knew - not with leaves on the trees and Donnie standing outside comfortably in that outfit. Of course, the fact that the Glass Gypsies are Chicago-based doesn't mean that he has to be in Chicago right at this moment...

After this guy was talked about on The Stephanie Miller Show on AM1090 yesterday, it is officially old tired and over done. But yeah, he is fat! If he does not want people taking jabs at his being fat maybe he should loose weight like he lost those pesky homoerotic desires. Those hot, sweaty, throbbing man on man desires.... Hard bodies on hard bodies, meshing together..... Excuse me.....

if he can dunk a basketball, then i can part the red sea. and by red sea of course i mean my boyfriend's hot tight ass.

I get so sick of all the fat-bashing.

Definitely looks like Texas or the Southeast to me. The leaves being on the trees, though, is really throwing me. The trees aren't even budding in NOLA this time of year.

I'm guessing Nashville. Though it does look a bit like Fort Worth.

I'll say this: In the realm of unintentional humor (if it is, in fact, unintentional), this ranks alongside Revenge of the Sith and that unforgettable "NOOOOOOOOOO!" moment.

You know the one I'm talking about.

I'm sticking with the Todd Quillen theory (mostly because I made a snarky wager on it, but what the hell). The fact that Quillen's publicist hasn't spoken to anyone about this doesn't really prove anything (I'd naturally contend that the lack of so much as a denial is evidence more in favor of than against the Quillen Hypothesis, but that's me and my bias talking).

That landscape could be just about anywhere in southern California, and Todd lives in LA.

It could just as easily be just about anywhere in the southwest, too, or... well, yeah. Not Chicago.

I'm positive this is a parody.

But you know what? Maybe people should stop trying to debunk him, because if the fundies think he's real, then he could really lead them down the road to some kind of amusing embarrassing prank. I say we just sit back and watch; it's a pretty funny show!

If you look carefully at the video where he's walking down a staircase; you'll see a Star Wars sticker on the bookcase behind him. Also, a home style sliding closet door to the left. Looks like someone's home to me.

When I first went to the lovegodswishandsway website I, thinking it was real, emailed Donnie about how incomplete his list of homosexual music was. I then encouraged others to send him more examples of homo music to fill out his list.

If it is a fake, then I can only hope that Mr. Davies and my strategies are the same, that being to so fill out the steroetypes that they collapse from their own inconsistencies.

We'll see...

Honestly, folks, if you haven't walked the walk - been raised in this since early childhood, finding Jesus under a revivalist tent, sobbing into sawdust (and that was just the first time...) you don't know how credible this all seems to some of us.

I'm prepared for the revelation (pun intended) that DD is one needy fucked up hoaxer - but something in the back of my mind...

Besides, truth is often stranger than fiction, yes? An old theatre adage goes,"If you put that up onstage nobody would believe it. We'll all know soon enough.

I never thought you were this stupid dan!
I think its time to admit that Andrew Sullivan is a much smarter homo than you. Gve me a break. If Morresey is a questionable gay artist then i ride a unicorn to my job as the managing editor of the stranger every day. Morresey might be the only person actually gayer than elton john.
You got fooled. It wasnt even that convincing. Maybe if you stopped being an anti-smoking fascist for a bit you'd have figured it out!
Oscar wilde a reformed homo? are you serious? you should read de profundis.

cmon "rightous man get on you knees there lies no virtue in sodomy"
so god ok with a BJ.

You fell for it! its so beautiful!

smarter than thou:

Dan never "fell for it," and he didn't sit on the fence long before deciding it's a fake.

With that said, Dan seems to think it's either an OK fake by a gay guy, or else it's a straight guy doing it out of some sort of weirdly expressed homophobia, and it's A Bad Thing. And that's a pretty fucked up dichotomy, Dan.

One more bit that makes me think this is happening near LA: the crane shot. Yeah, it's a film geek reason, and sure, you can do a crane shot anywhere they've got cranes, or clever non-crane ways to do crane shots, but still...

It's got to be fake, going on that last graphic: "CHOPS"??? That sounds like something from the Betty Bowers parody website.

Guys. Viral Marketing. Seriously, I know it doesn't make me a genius, but it seems like an epiphany at the moment. I have been following this entire ordeal since the beginning on slog, and have watched all of the videos. In light of CHOPS and Donnie's "all will be revealed" comment, this is CLEARLY viral marketing. Probably for a movie. A comedy called CHOPS a la But I'm a Cheerleader? Maybe. This is so totally obviously some sort of viral market stunt for a movie starring Donnie Davies (the character). I guess only time will tell.

Also, I don't know if this has been said yet, but whoever sings "Love God's Way" clearly TOTALLY doesn't have the same voice as Donnie Davies. It's someone else.

I just want to know who played the guitar solo. Good stuff.

So the C.H.O.P.S logo doesn't give you guys anything? (Besides the obvious.)

What a fake. He is so copying the voice inflections of typically fundamental or apostolic southern preachers, trust me i grew up with them. And what straight man or straight company would create that CHOPS logo. Go out and party, I am sure you will find him standing on the side of a dance floor.

I assure you all, this is not an elaborate hoax. In science we are sometime told that the best and most correct answer lies in the most simplistic scenario.

This guy is a very (fat) nieve person that probably had friends that believed very much like him. This guy is so nieve that he took other peoples word about the gay and non gay groups at face value without following up on them to verify if they were in fact true.

By putting out this video he probably accomplished what he had set out to do. I suspect his primary goal is to promote his CHOPS ministry. This is what I suspect the revelation is going to be; the successful launch of CHOPS that he admittedly revealed that was going to happen soon.

As for the fat issue DD... you have to expect that if you fling drama and hate around the room you are gonna get it right back atchya. Doesn't feel so good on the recieving end now does it?

I suspect we'll hear from old DD in the future when he is found shacked up in some sleazy motel with some male whore.

I checked the TX driver's license database and there is no D Davies listed anywhere near Houston and not one after 1960. There is also not a Shane Kendall (his "publicist") listed at all. Why would a small time preacher have a publicist at all, much less one that's not in the same state? Hoax, pure and simple.

@30 James wrote "I suspect we'll hear from old DD in the future when he is found shacked up in some sleazy motel with some male whore."

Actually, that'd be a decent ending for this kooky little performance. Again, so true to life that some people would still be saying "it can't be fake, there are people *just like this*." Really, what higher compliment is there for satire than so many people not being sure if it's "for real" or not?

Sullivan has a comment about him in his blog listed under "spoiler".

The company in AZ that the Whois refers back to for the websites is a domain name place holder so that your real address does not have to be revealed.

On Quillen's MySpace page he refers to being the fattest of three boys in TN. Quillen has also been "visiting" family in TN recently. That skyline looks like SOCAL, and it has been colder that a witches tit in TN lately. Not sure what the temp has been in TX of late.

I think it is probably parody but I don't think it is very tasteful.

Also on Quillen's webpage...www.toddquillen.com under video there is a place holder for award winning video to come or something like that.

Just a few thoughts.

I am of the school of thought that "Donnie" is the creation of an emotionally disturbed man - a man not without a sense of humor, but one who nevertheless truly hates homosexuality and has found a clever way to get out his message.

It is clear from this new "I can dunk a basketball" video that this is play-acting on some level. I am particularly struck by his use of words like "lambasting," "malign" and "emplore," and expressions like "to wit," which I have a feeling would not be part of the vocabulary of the type of man he is portraying. However, none of that proves that this man is not a demented homophobic bigot.

One other thing that strikes me as curious - about the "God Hates Fags" video - in terms of its quality - the high production values, the excellent vocal & keyboard work, and guitar solo -- these things hint at the fact that serious people were behind the creation of that thing. As cheesy as it is, there is a dedication to quality there that goes beyond the mere desire to create something funny.

One definition of satire is that it "afflicts the comfortable and comforts the afflicted". Great satirical performers such as Steven Colbert, Barry Humphries and Sacha Baron Cohen take their subjects to a point of reductio ad absurdam which tips the wink that it's not the real thing. Betty Bowers does this, as do the Landover people.

The trouble with Donnie is that he's a) not funny enough in the way that the people above are and b) too close to something that's already so wretched (especially in the case of Fred Phelps) that it's beyond parody anyway. Simply repeating Phelps' garbage then leavening it with a few double entendres is not a mark of good satire.

I find it fascinating, John, that you only consider a satirical performer "great" when he or she is broad and winking enough to make you comfortable.

You self-identify as one of "the afflicted," so naturally, this man Donnie, whose performance makes you quite uncomfortable, can't possibly be a great satirical performer, right?

Awww, I wish I hadn't seen that. It was really poor - though the crane shot is impressive. Their production value is high, but apparently they had all their content in that video. Whatever Donnie is really selling, I'm not interested.

I'm pretty sure (but can't be certain) that the music studio in the original video is Big Time Audio in Dallas (btaudio.com). Also, in the most recent Davies vid, the tower that occasionally appears over his left shoulder is located on U.S. 75 in Dallas. It's very unique.
