It is a pretty smart choice. If the Democrats are going to spend a gazillion dollars throwing a big congratulatory party for themselves, they may as well see if they can get some mileage out of it. Hosting it in a city that is in a swing state could conceivably tip the balance in their favor. The only better choice I can think of would have been New Orleans, which could have underscored what a colossal cock-up Bush has made of the Katrina recovery.

Atlanta better choice - destroy the Southern strategy - focus on the new South and harmony between the races --- Denver is a bore -- and Atlanta has excellent hotels and air connects
