Confidential to “First Amendment Lover”

I’m super busy today, but I did leave another comment in the Pedersen thread.

Josh: Why didn't you call bullshit on Jamie referring to himself as a "civil rights lawyer" on the House floor? Volunteering for Lambda Legal does NOT make him a civil rights lawyer. He is a lawyer who has worked on ONE civil rights issue.

DOUG.,

Jamie has spent years and countless hours working on marriage equality. How do you define who is and who isn't a civil rights lawyer?

I bet Jamie is even a member of ACLU - Doug, someone need to call you on a failure to put on the thinking cap.

Gay and lesbian folks who spend a great part of their lives working for equality are all civil rights experts/activists/ troopers ..... and, I think I remember Jamie working pro bono on some immigration rights issues .... civil rights issues????

For real.

The time Jamie's spent on civil rights issues is a FRACTION of the thousands and thousands of hours he's spent on mergers & aquisitions. Referrring to himself as a "civil rights attorney" reminds me of the Chevron & BP ads that espouse those respective companies' pro-environmental practices.

I happen to agree with Pedersen's stance on this issue, but the misrepresentation of his credentials is an insult to all the hard-working (and often poorly-paid) attorneys who spend the MAJORITY of their time working on civil rights issues.

The Stranger never called bullshit on this guy throughout the primary campaign, and it seems they refuse to do so now.

DOUG.:
Are you the ACLU's Doug Klunder?

Doug Whoever -

Get your sore loser head out of your ass.

Lambda Legal is the largest and most effective National project on gay rights. Jamie ran the damn thing for years as National chairperson.

I am sure he spent hundreds of free hours in that role alone alone.

Of course, I do understand the unspoken agreement among the main streamers that no gay or lesbian project really counts in the big, really tough fighting for civil rights world. Certainly not compared to the real projects like the ACLU stuff.

Get a clue Doug. You sound like such a sore loser.

Jamie is the real deal, and they only question is where he will go in politics over the next twenty years.

Gee, you're right, Selma, he does have a bright future - after all, he was the choice of nearly 24% of Democrats in the 43rd legislative district. His trajectory is that of a rocketship!

Ah, "sore loser", the mantra of the Bush 2000 campaign, when claiming victory became more important than leadership, and all the victor's misdeeds could be ignored.

Was Jamie at Jack Abramoff Hanukkah party too? If he was, you won't read it in The Stranger!
