onIn case you missed it, free will is an illusion.
In short, the conscious brain was only playing catch-up to what the unconscious brain was already doing. The decision to act was an illusion, the monkey making up a story about what the tiger had already done.

Did you just call me a freedomless monkey?
no he called us "nothing more than sophisticated meat machines", probably operating at random or according to purely egoistic drives hardwired into those machines. no discussion of compassion or self-sacrifice, as those would obviously be impossible and anyway just forms of grandstanding.
what a relief! i was hoping we could maybe do something about global warming. my bad!

I love this!
"Once you get the blanket thing, you can relax—because everything you could ever want or be, you already have and are."
I liked this quote too:
"[T]he conscious mind is like a monkey riding a tiger of subconscious decisions and actions in progress, frantically making up stories about being in control."
The Story of My Life:
"[T]he conscious mind is like a monkey riding a tiger of subconscious decisions and actions in progress, frantically making up stories about being in control."
Thank God. It's much easier going through life knowing you're not truly responsible for your actions.
