Whiny Babies in Congress Now Have To Work Half As Much As You and Me

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Let’s all shed a collective tear for Congress, which now has to report to work by 6:30 p.m. on Monday and can leave no earlier than 2 p.m. on Friday.

“Keeping us up here eats away at families,” former two-day-a-week Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga) whined. “Marriages suffer. The Democrats could care less about families — that’s what this says.”

Right. I mean, who do you know who has to work more than three days a week? It’s against the American Way!

And here I thought nothing could be more offensive than striking major league baseball players.

But he has a point, when are they to find time to diddle their pages or take lobbyist paid for trips on private jets?

I can actually see their point somewhat (though the whole "Democrats could care less about families" thing is just pathetic)...Unless they happen to live in or near D.C, these people don't get to just go home after work. They stay in D.C. until the week's session ends. Many will only see their families on weekends. It could be said that's what they signed on for when they ran for national office, but still.

Why not skip around the country having Congressional sessions in different capitol buildings? How come reps from Virginia and the Carolinas never have to fly anywhere?

Just another example of East Coast bias.

Congressmen and women work as hard as anyone in America. They average something like 80 hours a week or more. Unfortunately, most of that time is spent fundraising and being lobbied, not meeting as Congress, working on legislation, or meeting constituents. Basically they're running for office 24/7/52.

If Kingston thinks being in congress is hard on the family, perhaps he should try enlisting in the army and volunteering for a tour (or three) in Iraq.

Fucking crybaby.

being physically present doesn't equal productivity. i'm sure most people know someone who officially works 40 hours but spends the majority of that time surfing various websites and posting comments on the stranger's blog. i don't see the point in requiring employees to be present specific hours and never have. judge them on their work or lack thereof, not how long they sit in a cube under bad fluorescent lighting.
