Slog - Comments on Today in Stranger Suggests

'Volver' (DRINKING AS PREPARATION FOR INCEST) I can't be the only ex-Texan in Seattle who jumped for joy upon discovering that Linda's Tavern now has Shiner Bock—the Lone Star State's best brew—on tap. Take a friend, get a pitcher, then stroll to the nearby Egyptian cinema for a screening of Volver, Pedro Almodóvar's typically rich and wonderful rumination on mothers, daughters, ghosts, incest, and the vast lusciousness of Penélope Cruz. (Linda's Tavern, 707 E Pine St, 206-325-1220; Egyptian Theatre, 801 E Pine St, 206-781-5755.) DAVID SCHMADER...

Nah, you just gotta chug it at Linda's, then march 100 feet east. (And you should do your best to time it so your need to pee lands during previews.)

No, it's been open in Seattle for like 2 months already. But it's a great movie and you should see it anyway. Then go watch "What did I do to deserve this?" and compare.

I'm so sorry you think beer needs to be imported into this state to taste good...I'm not into roadrunners, myself; they always taste stale or have had the life pasturized out of it. There are over 70 breweries in this state, and all of them are micro or craft size. Open your horizons and try some of the great, fresh beer this area has to offer. If you are so enamored of lager styles, try the pilsner from Baron Brewing out of South Park. Or better yet, wander over to the Elysian on Pike & 12th and check out Loki Lager. Fresh is better.

Bitch, I've been drinking and greatly enjoying NW microbrews for the past 15 years. I'm just saying it's great to have the opportunity to enjoy Shiner Bock once in a while without flying to frickin' Austin...
