It was also oh so cute when the wingers attacked John Edwards for daring to mention Mary Cheney in the vice-presidential debates. Fucking hypocrites.

So when are they going to endorse mandatory abortion for all expectant lesbian mothers?

It's because these people don't think critically about their opinions that they now find themselves trapped trying to reconcile two momentarily irreconcilable positions. "Homophobia vs. blind respect for power and authority ... homophobia vs. blind respect for power and authority ... OMG, my head hurts, I'd better just hide 'til this blows over."

Although, I suppose one could try to look at this from the "glass half full perspective", in the sense that sheer cognitive dissonance hasn't completely eroded their brain cells to the point that at least a handful of them are exhibiting even this modicum of self-doubt.

The fact that they have been FORCED to confront (even if only as indicated by their abject silence on the subject) their blatant hypocricy perhaps can be seen as a sign of hope that, maybe, someday, they'll come around to actually acknowledging it.

Maybe.

During the Republican National Convention, one of Howard Stern's field reporters (Benjy Bronk) interviewed a delegate and asked if science could identify a gay gene, would it be ok to abort a fetus that was shown to be a future gay. you could hear the delegate's head spinning through the radio. He wouldn't even answer. He just kept saying that you couldn't tell that a fetus was gay...
