KOMO reported a woman nearly drowning in her Capitol Hill basement!

Rainier Valley was flooding at around 5 pm, pretty severely too (by normal standards, anyway). There was an abandoned car, in bumper-high water, in the side road next to the McDonald's a few blocks north of McClellan.

I have a photo but can't get it off the phone until I get home later tonight. I tell you, I was a little nervous about getting out of the McDonald's lot. (I stopped there because it was obvious I wasn't going to get anywhere decent for dinner and still get to work on time.) There was standing water at every exit from the lot and if it was deep enough to cause someone to leave their car right there in the middle of the road, I sure didn't want to get stuck in it. But I got through OK.

Then, it took me 2 hours to get from the McDonald's on Rainier to the Art Institute's north building, on Elliott. (Same building as RealNetworks.) I went up Rainier and onto Boren, and it was just inching all the way.

So this was 3 or 4 miles in two hours. Wonderful.

When I get off work the Seahawks post-game traffic will be out on the streets and it will suck all over again. With added windstorm action.

I live on 24th a couple of blocks from that tree. Drivers are going absolutely nutz! I'd hate to see what the city would be like in a real emergency because people are loosing their shit-big time. With all the horns it sounds like mid-town at 5pm.

I wish something of the magnitude of Katrina would hit Seattle, then only us nature boys (and girls) would survive. Of course, if you have a secure money source, you can always text message home to pawn your old flugelhorn.

actually i would say that the only people who didn't have much issue with lake campus parkway were people with SUVs. if your four wheel drive couldn't take the lake (or if you didn't want to risk it), you could drive through the mud pit that was the meridian. small cars were getting stuck in the mud and stalled in the water left and right. the only sure way to get through was by bus, though. They weren't even phased by the three feet of water.

There was just a HUGE explosion on Summit between Roy and Mercer, and the power just went out down the hill from me.

There are frogs falling from the sky in the Central District, and huge swarms of locusts.
