Anyone have an opinion on the Akintunde Akinleye photo from Lagos? It's stunning, but also looks suprisingly Photoshopped - so Photoshopped, in fact, that I bet it's not.

It doesn't look Photoshopped, it looks surreal. It's one of those photos of tragedies that's disturbingly beautiful.

Israelis did not stop building settlements in the West Bank 10 years ago. They just privatized it, with the Israeli government giving cover to all the illegal "settler" camps and incorporating many within the socalled green line as if they had government sponsorship. The substantive effect of Israel's decision to build more West Bank settlements is pretty low, but the symbolism is certainly likely to make things worse. Where is the US government? Busy criticizing Carter...
