Dear Editor, Nothing could be more strange than your article on Gerald Ford. Now, bend over, stick your head up your butt (where it usually is so this should be easy), and come out looking at the world through your belly button. Now, that should feel about right. Grow up. Get a real job. Where were you when men were drafted? Rob

Where was Paul Constant when men were drafted? In utero.

Awesome, and congrats. This is funny in the same way that "America's Hometown Newspaper" on the side of your street corner boxes is.

SDA...

You are not the sharpest pencil in the box are you?

Read who the poster was.... That response was actually the quickest jab that's been on the slog in a while.

Addressing the Paul Constant article. Considering how hypercritical The Stranger is at finding things outside of their own viewpoint: offensive, ant-semetic, homophobic, racist or whatever they want to get their panties in a bunch about each week.

The article in poor taste and should never have run.

Any angry responses they receive on this article are well deserved.

@8

Well, at least you can string together a readable sentence. Congrats.

This is hardly the first inflammatory article The Stranger has written. In fact, they do it all the time. I have no problem with people disagreeing with The Stranger. Or even hating on them for writing inflammatory articles. I don't always agree with them, and I occasionally get pissed off when they write something I think is totally wrong. But I nevertheless find The Stranger highly entertaining.

What I was mocking was the fact that the two posts previous to mine (both probably the same person, I'm guessing) wrote entire rants without a single punctuation mark of any kind, rendering their opinions completely unreadable. I vaguely get that they didn't like the anti-Ford article, but I have no idea what the fuck they are talking about. I can handle a misspelled word or two, and the occasional grammatical error, but that was just like a stream of consciousness of random words which were only vaguely related.

Agree or disagree, but if you want anyone to give a shit about what you say, it helps to at least attempt to write a readable sentence, so some of us can understand your diatribe.

Oh, and addressing the Paul Constant article. While I wouldn't necessarily use the same inflammatory language that Paul did, I think Ford was a terrible president. All the rose colored tributes I've been reading for the last day have been pretty nauseating. Nixon's actions caused a huge number of people to be cynical and distrustful of the government. Ford's pardoning of Nixon was not "healing" but a lazy way out, and just confirmed that corruption and dishonesty are okay. And we wonder why we have such consistently high voter apathy. For that single act, any angry obits Ford receives are well deserved.

OK, bottom line. Ford: Decent man, crappy president. Can we let him die for reals now?

That's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. I wish I could have seen it at Google news but I don't like the way they present the news (except that I do like that they have links to every article in the world on each story - that's cool).

I enjoy provocative articles in The Stranger, but it seems The Stranger staff feels compelled to stick it to the readers who prefer to be more thoughtful in accessing the subject. In this case, a great many of us admire Gerald R. Ford but enjoy reading different opinions. So when we see “Gerald Goddamned Ford” in the headline it is insulting to our initial disposition on the former president. Why be so rude? It seems The Stranger would be more effective if they had just a bit of graciousness, which wouldn’t dissipate their cutting-edge style but actually afford them more credibility.

Damn. I was pleased to read the Paul Constant obit on Ford. I was beginning to wonder if I was in a different universe with the constant universal praise for the guy, totally disconnected from how many people viewed his actions when they were paying attention to them.

Constant's obit needed to be written, if only to counter in some small way the barrage of fawning revisionism.

Why be rude towards an elected official? Chip, dude, why should they kiss someone's ass if they disagree, elected or not? Graciousness? Towards someone he doesn't like? lordy lordy, what it must be like to live in your white-bread world where credibility is gained through the use of "Please sir" and "Thank You Sir" and not the quality of thought or opinion expressed. Bet it must suck to be you... are you one of those who feel that society’s “rude” morality should be cleaned up through legislation (as long as it is Bible based) or are you one of those academics living so far up an ivory tower that no one listens to your "expert" brain dribble about how great society would be if everyone just listened to you?

And Paul, nice article, it needed to be said, glad someone said it, yadda yadda. I would expect nothing less from this paper and would be pissed if I got it.

Phenics, you extrapolated far more from what I was trying to say. What’s so wrong with showing a little deference to a president who just died? In the body of the article, tearing Ford’s actions and polices to shreds is a spirited and healthy debate – what I expect from The Stranger. I’m only referring to the headline. The profanity is adolescent, sophomoric, and unnecessary. Get it now?

Chip:
The useful point of the headline was to emphasize, "Enough Already!"

Look what goddam Vietnam War historical revisionism got us. A country full of people believing fantasies about the past or lying to themselves about what they had witnessed with their own eyes.

Enough revisionism and rose colored wash!

Posted by mirror | December 28, 2006 12:32 PM

Then the headline could have been:

Gerald R. Ford: Enough Already!

See, that is so much more creative and effective.

So geeez. Excuuuse me for advocating a sense of decorum. I guess I am just not cynical and bitter like you guys.

But not nearly as fucking funny. Can I get a Bill Fucking Clinton when he dies, too?

More laffs, please.
