Mein Kristmas

posted by on December 11 at 18:05 PM

An orgy of anti-Jewish vitriol has erupted on KING-5’s website over the Christmas tree story.
Here are a couple of choice comments in the thread:

Why couldn’t the rebe leave well enough alone this year. He could have waited until next year and then ask that a Mennorah be included. What was so important to have it done this year - two weeks before Christmas?

He is just another example of why Jewish people, and others, especially the ACLU (which is supported predominately by Jewish people), are looked upon as the leading proponents of asking a nation, that history can demonstrate was based upon Judaeo Christion values, to mask / remove those values.

I guess diversity is great, except when Christianity is involved. Christians are asked to be diverse daily. We must accept everyone elses values and symbols. But, you would think the world is coming to an end, when minorities are asked to respect our values and symbols.

The Sec-Tac management is spineless and without a backbone.

They might prove me wrong by restoring the Christmas trees. I’m not holding my breath.

Um, Tom, the Rabbi made his request 6 weeks ago. The question is: Why’d the Port ignore him until now?

og3p, Jewish-owned stores? Nordstrom, for example?

Nothing worse than a dose of Christian victimization. What a bunch of losers.

Just to point out the obvious, there are a couple of problems with your blockquote/bold tags.

The Nordstroms have Bloomingdale envy, but that's about as Jewish as they get.

Those glorified shoe salemen learned everything they know from Marshall Field and I, and we weren't Jewish either.

Please don't blame the Jews for a worldwide conspiracy. If we were in charge, things would be much better (with more sugar, too).

Josh --

Thanks for drawing some attention to these posts. The sentiment behind them is disgusting.

This is a fight where everyone involved comes out looking like shit.

First, we have the petty Rabbi threatening to suit a tax funded organization because of an interior decorating issue. Surely there's a better way for he and his lawyer to spend their time.

Then we have the inevitable anti-semitic grunting from the Bill O'Reilly mouth breathers.

What's next? The Jewish commentators pointing to the mouth breathers and saying look what victims we are, I'm moving back to New York.

Fuck this.

You know, these commenters piss me off so much that I'm going to ask the Elders of Zion to raise the price of zinc, just out of spite.

If only some muslims were involved, so we could hate them AND feel smug and morally superior about it.

Hey, anyone recall this scene from my movie "Deconstructing Harry"?

A: "A question: If a Jew gets massacred, does it bother you more than if it's a Gentile or a black or a Bosnian?"

B: "Yes, it does. I can't help it.
It's my people."

A: "They're all your people."

B: "Burt is right about you.
You're a self-hating Jew."

From an agnostic progressive, anti-religious right gay male: How many Christmas Trees and Islamic holiday symbols decorate the streets of Israel which is home to smaller groups of Chritians and Palestinians? At some point being politically correct becomes ridiculous.

I am so sick of this issue.

I am so sick of Christmas.

And I am so God damn sick of religion.

Clearly we need to fly in Mel Gibson to arbitrate this mess and clear it up once and for all. All booze expense, of course.

Um, Dan, what does Israel have to do with anything? I'm not Israeli, though I am Jewish...

I heard the Rabbi's lawyer on the radio with Dave Ross. He sounded like he doesn't have a lot of negotiating skills besides bludgeon and whine and read my mind. I doubt he had any idea what he was doing and ended up letting both the Rabbi and the Port end up looking bad.

I guess the dickhead who wrote to KING doesn't know "Judaeo Christion" means Jewish/Christian.

There was a time when this sort of post would have pulled all the rabid Jewish solipsists out of the woodwork to post crazy rants. Whatever happened to them? I'm nostalgic for the long-gone Slog of 6 months ago.

Israel? What the f&*k does Israel have to do with the First Amendment's prohibition on the establshment of religion here?

We live in the USA, where the Bill of Rights still applies (well, sort of... unless you're an enemy combattant, or in GITMO, or George Bush wants to conduct a warrantless wire tap of your phone...)

This is what happens in a country that claims to be a democracy, that is, a place where minorities are respected, but is not. It is what happens when those who purport to represent one religion try to obnoxiously impose their practices on everyone else. An airport authority calls this the holiday season, oblivious to the fact that it is the holiday season to only one religion. The news media have fanned the fires of anti-Semitism with their prejudicial reporting of how "the Jews" have sought to destroy the spirit of Christmas. It's true that many Christians view Christmas trees as a secular, non-religious cultural tradition and Hanukkah candelabras as religious symbols. But Jews view Christmas trees as a manifestation of the Christian religion and Hanukkah candelabras as non-religious symbols. Thank God there are some real Christians around who see the absurdity and hypocrisy in this situation and are tolerant of other people's beliefs and practices.
