If you can ever get your hands on a copy of the TAMI show video, the James Brown part at the end - even on a show as Wonder Bread as that one - was incendiary. The screams, the fall-and-hurt-your-knees, the cape, the return to the mike - everything in one small, sorta blurry, lo-fi package from the mid-60s.

As he says on In The Jungle Groove, "Put your hands on the speakers! can you feel it? If you got any kind of soul, you got to feel it."

Yeah, he set fire to the TAMI Show, didn't he? And that was only the second or third revolutionary thing he did. He hadn't even invented funk yet. Go dig out "Escapism, Pt. 2" and groove in his honor.

I can't believe you got to go to that, David. That must have been amazing.
