These are pictures of the van that belonged to Downpilot frontman Paul Hiraga (who, incidentally, released one of the most well-written and criminally overlooked records of the year). Sorry, Paul!

I don't know who this person is, but seeing a pre '86 vanagon felled this way, especially with the rare and desirable chocolate-on-taupe paint theme, well... it breaks my heart.

How can you tell it's air-cooled? Wedgies all look alike to me.
Hey, if a Vanagon is going to bite the dust, is there any greater way for it to go out than this? I mean, come on - Volkswagon drivers are usually the most environmentally-conscious people, and then a giant tree falls down and obliterates the VW. Brilliant!

How can you tell it's air-cooled? Smooth, blank sheet metal between bumper and headlights. Air-cooled don't have the second lower radiator grill below the headlight grill that the watercooled ones do, for obvious reasons.
