Sure, we love Cook’s Illustrated too, but they’re not the only ones who work hard to perfect (and occasionally corrupt) classic American recipes. You can check out our latest culinary findings over here.
Cooks Illustrated/ America's Test Kitchen kicks ass, i've never had one of their recipes fail, and yes, I have actually done quite a few of them. What's nice is that they explain why a recipe or technique works. I highly recommend their High Roasted Chicken recipe with the schmaltz roasted potato's and garlic pan seared asparagus.
When making pot butter, I skip the double boiler, just throw the butter & bud into the boiling water. After boiling for a bit, but the water & butter in a bowl in the fridge to cool, the butter will harden in a layer on top of the water, being fat & not water soluable, no THC is lost in the water, but tars and any other nasties stay there. As an added bonus, if you use a vaporizor (and if you care about your lungs, you should), save the vaporized bud and you can use a large quantity of it to make butter. I usually use 1 nacho-cheese jar of vaporized pot to 1 stick of butter (admit your a stoner, you've got an empty nacho-cheese jar or two laying around). It really quite amazing, nasty brown vaporized leavings & butter go into the water; nasty, stinky brown water & a deep green tasty, stony butter come out! Besides, it's like recycling in a way...
In the "I Can't Believe It's Pot Butter!" article, the writers directed their readers to a Partnership for a Drug-Free America website. I'm disappointed in this. I know it was probably meant as a joke, but it's not funny. Partnership has always been in the business of misinformation. Americans are finally getting over all the reefer madness propaganda that's been shoved down their throats for years, but Partnership still thinks it's 1982.

By the way, I agree with the commenter who says to put the butter and herb directly into the boiling water. Way easier, less messy, no need for gloves or cheese cloth. I would only add these two tips: Boil for around an hour. And before you put it in the refrigerator to cool, pour the whole liquid mess through a mesh strainer into another big bowl. That way you don't have spent leaf mixed in with your butter.
Eating is a really great way to consume THC and is the preferred way for many medical marijuana patients.
