An article I read here:

Black Friday Turned Green at the Malls Before Dawn
By MICHAEL BARBARO

reminds me of somethng I read at the SLOG over the weekend:

"...depart your home at your own peril, for the day after all the thanks have been given is called Black Friday, and life is cheap. Legions of shoppers, still bloated from canned pumpkin products and of a frenzied disposition owing to their mounting MasterCard debt, will blitz the streets to snap up as much cheap crap from China as their bingo-arms can carry against the foreordained approach of yet another Christioconsumer “holiday.”"

The biggest news in New York, albeit the same old sad case of 'jumping the gun'(no pun intended) is not Seattles weather its more about trigger happy cops again....
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15918902/
This mans life was snuffed before he had a chance of a fulfilling marriage to his beutiful wife yesterday. So Oh well ...I guess its not big news just another blackman shot by the cops(he musta have been running or something right). To me I didn't give a damn about the news of 100 dead Iraqis by other Iraqis....I gave a damn that Americans killed by other Americans this weekend were unjustified....just ventin and upset about it thats all.sorry back to my homework.

Here is an awful story from the Bay Area about unjustified violence towards women, Sputnik, if you can stand another discouragement:

In case the link fails the article is:

Getting back to the weather for a second, I watched a lot of MNBC this weekend and they always lead off the weather with what was going on in Seattle and kept saying we currently had the worst weather in the nation. The best in the nation? Mt. Baker.

So, is the NYT just "noticing" Seattle? Or have they always had a micro Seattle edition, and it's finally being linked?

The NY Times has reporters living here in Seattle, so it's not surprising they report on here.

Plus, they get a lot of subscribers here. I used to be one, now I get the Wall Street Journal, and read the Washington Post online.

Matthew --

I think the NYT has a staff reporter stationed in Seattle, but there is no seattle edition per-se. There used to be an LA-based West coast edition, but I think it got the axe during a prior round of cost cutting.

I believe there are only three editions right now: New York region, DC region and National.

When I was in Baltimore, I received the DC edition with its expanded political coverage. Best of them all in my opinion.

Monkey @ 9:

Don't you understand? If all the other doctors just followed Dr. Grossman's path of achieving massive wealth followed by philanthropic giving, we'd have this cancer problem solved right quick!

Never mind that it usually takes 20-30 years to accumulate wealth of that size outside of miraculous fucking luck (see: YouTube), and that, oh, I don't know, THERE WOULD BE NO FUCKING DOCTORS ACTUALLY DOING ANY WORK.

Nah, it's much easier to sit back and get fabulously rich, THEN start fixing the world's problems.
