So Much For Standing By Their Pastor

posted by on November 4 at 15:12 PM

Every last member of New Life Church that I’ve heard interviewed on the radio and TV, and seen quoted in print, said they were going to stand by “Pastor Ted.” Well, that was then.

The board of overseers announced today that Pastor Ted Haggard will be dismissed from New Life Church. The board, comprised of four pastors outside New Life, said in a statement Haggard “had commited sexually immoral conduct.”

“In consultation with leading evangelicals and experts familiar with the type of behavior Pastor Haggard has demonstrated, we have decided that the most positive and productive direction for our church is his dismissal and removal.”

Oh, and here’s a nice little irony:

Standing before thousands of followers, the Rev. Ted Haggard prayed from the pulpit last Sunday for lies and deceptions to be exposed.

Who says God doesn’t hear our prayers. And was the man begging God to out him or what?

Excerpt from one of the diaries in Night of the Long Knives:
'With an SS escort detachment the Führer drove to Bad Wiessee and knocked softly on Röhm's door: “Message from Munich,” he said with disguised voice. “Well come in,” Röhm called to the supposed messenger, “the door is open.” Hitler tore open the door, fell on Röhm as he lay in bed, seized him by the throat and screamed, “You are under arrest, you swine.” Then he turned the traitor over to the SS. At first Röhm refused to get dressed. The SS then threw his clothes in the Chief of Staff's face until he bestirred himself to put them on. In the room next door, they found young men engaged in homosexual activity. “And these are the kind who want to be leaders in Germany,” the Führer said trembling. (Spielvogel, 78)

and with that Hitler was on his way to
infamy. The GOP reminds me of the SS thats why I'm posting all this.

Why are you so surprised by this Sputnik? The GOP accepts money from arms dealers, oil companies, international financiers, genetic food manufacturers, resource extractors, pharmaceutical companies, none of which have anything remotely resembling sterling values when it comes to morality.

So far the GOP is concerned, they draw the line on "moral values" right where the check requires a signature. It's just that many of their rank-and-file are only now beginning to figure that out.

Regarding the last two comments on the post: Yes; you can't run, and you can't hide.

Christians put too much faith in their leaders, and then these same people wonder why they fall.

"Ted Haggard's accuser failed a polygraph test early this morning about the truthfulness of his accusations that he had had a three-year homosexual affair with the influential Colorado Springs minister.

"The test was given to Michael Jones, 49, an admitted male prostitute, who made the allegations on the Peter Boyles Show on radio station KHOW Thursday morning."

Amazing, but true. Accusations against Haggard may be false, according to the Denver Post. (Google "lie detector" + Haggard.)

Meanwhile, Spurtnik has gone from zero to queer Roehm & Long Knives in 2.7 seconds. Typical premature ejaculation at The Stranger.

Well, if it is a premature ejaculation problem, why does New Life's council suddenly have it as well? That's what I want to know.

Haggard has admitted to getting massages and buying meth—multiple times. The person that administered the lie detector test said the results weren't reliable because Jones, under so much stress, hadn't been able to eat or sleep for two days.

It's amazing that somebody who just came out claiming the truth is under so much stress, and the guy being accused is keeping relatively calm. Who knows, it may change. You'd think it'd be the other way around, though.

Sputnik @ 4, and in several other posts on other topics, I note. It appears you must either be studying the Nazis in school at the moment, or some kind of Nazi-obsessive, or both - you have a hammer, and all the world is a nail. Other than the obvious victimisation of homos, I can't see much comparison between copping a gakked-up blowjob from a male prostitute, and remilitarising the Rhineland. Or is it just me?

Yeah, ok. Mom's point's well made, but Dan's dealing from strngth on this one. Pretty hard (no pun) to argue past that pastoral confession ... massage therapy, sensual massage, sensual crystal meth massage therapy. Haggard's bagged.

I would be very stressed if I had come forward with the dirt on someone that powerful. Especially someone with White House contacts. You might just be disappeared.

Another day, another delightful nugget of news on the Haggard case. I suppose tomorrow will be bleak as far as new developments go, what with everyone praying all day and all. I think I'll take the day off as well. Anyone know a reasonably priced gay escort? I'm not on a tax-free budget.

This is one librul who's waaaaay too old-fashioned for the "family values" of Pastor Ted and the New Life Church.

Haggard's church is on the north side of Colorado Springs, near the Airforce Academy. It's less than a 60 minute drive into downtown Denver. If you live in the Springs and are checking into a hotel in Denver, you probably will be asking for an hourly rate.

Oh, and lie detectors? They are bullshit. Every scientific study on them concludes they don't work. False positives, false negatives, there all jumbled inthere. They have some deterrent value, because people are worried they MIGHT work. At least the guy who administered the lie detector test had the good sense to leave himself some wriggle room ("subject took test on less than two hours sleep, which could have screwed up results.") just in case, oh, say, Haggard might cop a plea in front of the church elders and leave his "Jones failed" assertion high and dry.

Hope y'all appreciate my sacrifice in tearing myself away from church & from Cienna's Bible to post this post, but Hag says it all: "repulsive and dark." No, that's not a description of Nancy Pelosi. It's Haggard belatedly attempting an honest description of Haggard's conduct. Perhaps he should be put on a polygraph for confirmation.

I resent the cheap-shotting of the Christian Right by people who are usually Wrong. In this case, though, Hag wasn't undone by a half-vast left-wing conspiracy. Haggard was undone by Haggard. Case closed.

Uh, Ryder Haggard (any relation?), your self-loathing faggot poster-boy, ex-uberpastor Ted 'Art' Haggard just admitted to gay sex, calling himself, quote, a 'deciever' and 'liar'. Wow, that left-wing media bias sure is convincing, isn't it? Get a grip, and realize that the loudest voices calling for the oppression of homosexuals emanate from self-hating repressed queer men and asexual prudes who are happy with husbands who only want to fuck them bi-annually. Hypocrites seemingly always engage in public hysterics about the very things they repress in themselves.

You would have thought that Haggard would have learned his lesson from Gary Hart, who challenged mere reporters to prove his infidelity. Challenging God instead? That's really stupid.
