Again: Why does it take King County ten times as long as any other jurisdiction in the country to count, or even find, our fucking ballots? This is embarrassing.

uh...lets see...they're ten times bigger then anybody else?

Fnarf - Actually I would submit to you that Pierce County is the embarrassment. They still haven't finished counting ballots, and have almost as many ballots to be counted as King County, AND they took Friday and Saturday off while King County worked those days.

The only reason they don't have a light shining on them is because people are fixated on the much larger King County elections office.

In fact, statewide outside of King County, there are still over 250,000 ballots to count. Where's the outrage at that?!

I'm sure Sharkansky will treat this with his customary quiet dignity and grace.

Suppose there are 20,000 absentee ballots to be counted. Burner would need 11,758 -- 59% -- of these votes to overcome the margin. Could these mysterious absentee votes really swing that far in her direction?

Oh fuss and bother.

It's obvious to any clear-thinking person that Burner won.

If Reichert were any kind of gentleman, he'd just go back to what he does best.

dna - These are King County ballots. They are not just WA-08 ballots. In fact, WA-08 probably accounts for only a fraction of the 20,000 ballots in question. Assuming these are from all over the county, and that they area spread as the rest of the returned ballots have been, perhaps only 6500 - 7000 are WA-08 ballots.

The Reichert campaign isn't getting into a tizzy about these ballots, and neither should Sharkansky.

What would Shark have to write about if not for people counting ballots in close major races?

Who gives a damn what right wing bloggers like Sharkansky think anyway?

Washington is a great place to live in spite of conservatives who apparently won’t stop until everyone is poor and miserable.

When I think of my hopes and dreams for our country, I picture us being more like Canada, where health care is a human right and women, minorities and the poor are treated with equality, dignity and respect.

Republicans can’t point to a single civilized country where their draconian, hateful policies are successful. If the rest of the civilized world has abandoned those failed ideas (ex small government), why can’t we?

It's worth pointing out a couple issues with counting absentee ballots in Washington state. First off, WA only requires that the ballot be POSTMARKED by election day; most states require that the ballot ARRIVE by election day. Secondly, auditors can't start counting the ballots until all the polls close; Some states allow election boards to start processing absentee ballots on election day.

When we talk about voter fraud, it's paranoid whining. When they talk about voter fraud, it's clearly that there's been a conspiracy to defraud their righteous candidate of his honestly won victory.

I think I remember our very own Supremes ruled out the early counting of absentees - ie. mail in ballots.

Hence no early count, as in prior years.

The reasoning, need to look that up to be exact, but something to the effect that all ballots needed to be handled exactly alike and on the same time line.

Patience to all - Burner is toast.

The shark is a total asshole. Who cares what the nutjobs think.
The posters there really act like a major escape from an aslyum just happened and they all went on line on the same day at the same site.

Scary people.

The people I vote and work against every day and with all my energy and money.

Partisanship aside, two years after the craziness that was the '04 gubernatorial election and King County Elections still operates like some sort of Rube Goldberg machine on crack?

An absolute disgrace. This isn't about stealing elections; it's about compentence and confidence.

And King Co is supplying precious little of the latter.

Hey Votes For All,

Maybe some day you'll be able to look past your ignorance and anger that King County votes Democratic, and look at the actual data. According to simple calculations from the invaluable Secretary of State elections website, King County still has to count 9.75% of its ballots. Which isn't all that great a full week after the election. Until you see that...

Fully eighteen counties are farther behind in vote-counting, including three (Stevens, Island, and Grays Harbor) with more than 30% of their ballots still uncounted. Those three as well as Clallam, Walla Walla, Pierce (23.9% uncounted), Okanogan, and Columbia have more than twice King's percentage of uncounted ballots.

Where are the complaints about Benton County's incompetence? Why aren't you carping about your lack of confidence in Lewis County's elections office? Where's your faux outrage at Douglas County's sloth? King County is counting faster than all of those counties, and more.
