Why didn't someone warn me? If I'd known how powerful that magic was, I would never have permanently bonded with all those tissues.

You may know "oxytocin" by its more common name: "magic pixie dust." If you use it up you can't love. Or fly to a wondrous land.

As one person on Feministing pointed out, oxytocin is also partially responsible for parent-child bonding. Does that mean you use some of it up with each child, so that each subsequent child is less loved than the one before? I just love crackpot "science."

Then again, as the youngest of 13, I'm not sure I can really make a case that it ISN'T used up by all the older kids...

"Climate Change" was a term created by famed Republican branding consultant, Frank Luntz. He thought it sounded less alarming than "global warming". Now of course, it has made its way into the every day language.

Luntz was the same guy who came up with "Contract with America" and "death tax". (No cared about the estate tax, but once he changed it to 'death tax' it was opposed by 70% of Americans)

I got all of this from PBS Frontline, where I get most of my feel-bad news.

"Climate change" is a hell of a lot more accurate than "global warming". Warming ain't the half of it. It's the disruption of major global cycles like the Gulf Stream that's important, not some innocuous one-degree temp rise everywhere. Many of the most devastating impacts will have nothing to do with warmth.

That's got to be (another) one of the stupidist things I've ever heard come out of the mouth of a mouth-breathing Republican - what? Does he believe that the pituitary gland has just so much oxytocin stored up, and that the brain doesn't have any way of replenishing it as it's used?

I'll bet this guy also believes human beings have a finite number of heartbeats, and once you reach your prescribed limit - your number's up.

Or, maybe he believes the human male only produces a finite number of sperm cells, so better not waste 'em guys, or someday you might not be able to make a baby when you want to.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Er, stupidest, of course.

I gotta agree that while "climate change" sounds more benign, it's definitely more accurate ... at least it'd shut up the retards who'd say "See? This isn't WARM!" when there are blizzards in July.

*ahem*
Sooo if you agree with the science it's science, but otherwise it's republican propoganda?

People DO build up tolerance to drugs, including hormones and neurotransmitters. Just ask heroin addicts. And it had been my understanding that one DOES INDEED build up a tolerance to oxytocin, which is basically the primary mammalian bonding hormone. Normally loving prarie dog mothers will beat their children and not feed them if deprived of oxytocin at a critical stage.

It makes sense that one becomes tolerant to oxytocin if one has sex with numerous different people, because it would be silly for you to bond to every single person you had sex with if that was your lifestyle.

anyway, sex beats oxytocin any day of the week.

Also, don't forget that they don't need to take care of the planet or control the population because God will make them a New Earth.

yay articles:

except prarie voles aren't monkeys like us, so large brains liberate us from hormonal control:

So having sex with someone automatically will cause chemical bonding? I'm not buying that. Bonding in a loving relationship (regardless if it's a conjugal or platonic loving relationship) hasn't a thing to do with having sex.

Um, I think I could be a fantastic case study in disproving this oxytocin/lack of bonding link. I'm happily married, love my husband, and have been a whore of the second highest order (a friend of mine makes me look like a virgin). I sure as hell didn't bond with any of those guys I fucked in Basic Plumbing. And didn't The Stranger just publish an article about swingers? This guy is so full of shit.

As an American in the U.K, the most striking thing about the "global warming" discussion over here is not that they universally refer to it as "climate change" (which they do), but that I heard a pundit for the conservative party segue from fear-mongering about terrorism to criticising a climate change bill for not being tough enough.

For all their backwardsness on veil-wearing muslims, at least the British understand science.
