He'll have to beat me out first. I grew up in a half-Italian town in BC, so I got a bit of a head start on him.

Olive oil, varied diet, veggies, red wine (1-2 glasses for men, 0.5-1 glasses for women), mild to moderate exercise ... that's the best prescription for almost anything.

The study used doses of resveratrol equivalent to about 20 bottles of wine a day. I don't think even Charles M. is going to make that grade. The evidence for red wine remains shaky at best. Most likely it's the modest amount of alcohol.

Oh, and all you Parker fans with your overextracted 16-18% Super Tuscans, Monster Zins, and "garagistes": your wine tastes like shit on fire. Wine should be 12-13%.

Underestimate Charles' wine drinking capabilities at your own peril.

Where are you getting your figures, Fnarf? Charles needs to drink much, MUCH more than that:

"The mice were fed a hefty dose of resveratrol, 24 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. Red wine has about 1.5 to 3 milligrams of resveratrol per liter, so a 150-pound person would need to drink from 1,500 to 3,000 bottles of red wine a day to get such a dose. "

And um, this may be a delicate subject, but... I don't think Charles weighs 150 pounds.

My bad. I was aiming for 24 mg of resveratrol total, not per kg of body weight.

"1,500 to 3,000 bottles of red wine a day."

That sounds like a fucking challenge. I got a bout a half bottle in me right now so that just leaves well a lot more than 3,000 since I weight a fair bit more than 150.
