Slog is manned by alcoholics. They're all too hungover to string two words together on Sundays.
I think it's weird that the Cubs chose to invest so much in one player when they clearly need, well, a SHITLOAD of help, particularly a healthy starting pitcher or three. I mean, it's not like the Nationals rode Soriano's back into the playoffs or anything. He won't last more than four years in Chicago before he sulks and moans his way into a trade. Enjoy.
The Cubs are the worst-run franchise in baseball. Soriano's just OK; he's no superstar. I'm just glad it's not the Mariners that overpaid that much.
Beat by the Santa Clara 49'ers. Bummer.
Sundays are when I really need SLOG (or a life, but whatever).
Santa Clara 49'ers. Yuck.
Cisco A's/Fremont A's. Worse.
Man, yall crazy Soriano is the real deal. I would have loved to have that motherfucker in an M's uniform. Face it, baseball today is not the baseball of the Kirby Puckett (sp?) era. All that sentimental shit is over. Players go where they pay em and thats it.
Ichiro is staying put, the Nitendo dude will make sure of that.
The Hawks need to get their shit together. Lets hope Matt comes back next week. To lose to the niners is as bas as the Huskies losing to Stanford.
Hangovers are a mo fo, but nothing a good menudo and a shot of tequila can not cure.
Dude, Soriano last year had over 40 HR's, doubles and stolen bases... His on base percentage was .350, not too shabby. I'd say that's superstar status. The Cubs now have Piniella and they're likely not through dealing. A team to watch...
Nice egg the Seahawks laid on Sunday, and that was WITH Alexander in the backfield. Man, it looks like another one-and-done playoff appearance for the Seahawks... if the Niners don't steal the NFC West division title first!
Also, the Alfonso Soriano deal is absolutely insane. $136 million over 8 seasons for a good but flawed player who plays terrible defense and has no real approach at the plate rather than swing fast and swing at everything. When he gets old and starts to slow down, he's gonna look terrible... and cost the Cubs $17 million per.
Jim Hendry's teams suck because he keeps throwing big money at supposed superstars and middle relievers, and he has nothing left to add other good role players.
Enjoy your 95 losses in 2007, Cubbies, along with those 35 errors at 2nd base or right field or wherever you stash ol' High-sox the Hacker.
As Gomez points out, Soriano is a hacker, and a .350 OBP is in fact terrible for a guy making $15 million a year. If he can learn to push it up over .400, then maybe you'd have something worth getting excited over. But by the end of this contract, Soriano's going to be the biggest albatross in baseball.
Sorry, we were all playing Wii Sports and tiring ourselves out.
Man, I love that boxing game!
