Late Morning News

posted by on November 23 at 10:21 AM

Bush Pardons Turkey: Today the bird, tomorrow Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Rice?

Some Things Are Looking Up In Iraq: Sadly it’s the civilian death toll.

More Civilian Dead: The previous story was written before today’s car bombs went off in Baghdad, which added at least 150 souls to the death toll in the deadliest attack since the start of the war.

Do As We Say, Not As We Do: The Catholic Church, which wants gays to be celibate, still having trouble getting their own priests to honor their vows of celibacy.

In Other Catholic News: With 25,00,000 dead of AIDS and 43,500,000 million infected with HIV the pope is now consideringójust consideringósoftening the church’s stance on condom usage. Go tell your dead friends!

Flying During the Holidays: Something to be avoided at all costs.

Manhattan’s Balloon Fetishists Rejoice: Wind and rain forces Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade organizers to drag massive balloons practically along the ground, grazing the heads of spectators.

Jon Flushes John: Jon Stewart’s Daily Show gets Google to cancel the YouTube account of John Aravosis of Americablog. Is $500-a-share-Google destroying YouTube? That’s what John says.

This post was late thanks to my Comcastic Internet service.

I don't get this business of "Jon Stewart" closing down his account. Comedy Central, okay, but where is the evidence of Stewart ordering or even wanting this?

Broken link on "tomorrow Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Rice".

wait, arent they "starting to pull troops" out of iraq? isnt the war pretty much over? theres been PROGRESS right?

it's so much bullshit. what does bush have to be thankful for today? what the fuck is he going to say that anyone is going to believe him? "I'm thankful for the highest death toll yet!"

THAT'S COMCASTIC, DAN!

The most nonsensical ad campaign had to be Tripping the Light Comcastic. I'm probably the only one I know besides them that knows that's taken from a Paul McCartney album no one cares about, Tripping the Light Fantastic.

Their ads are as dumb as their service. I like when they turn on your service at a new place, then bill you for two months in the span of 2 weeks. Funny, that.

Link fixed, Ivan. Thanks for the heads up.

Gomez, you really think that McCartney coined that phrase? Close: it was Milton.

Posted by Gabriel | November 23, 2006 12:12 PM
7

And furthermore, McCartney's album was Tripping the Live Fantastic, because it was a live album.

Also, I agree with Gabriel at #1 and have left Mr. Aravois a comment at AMERICAblog asking him about that point.

I know that presidents have been doing this turkey pardon for years and everything, but there's something really weird about pardoning a turkey and saving it from the slaughter, and making a big ceremony about that, when we're in the middle of a war in which hundreds of innocent people are being slaughtered each day because our president chose to create this fiasco.

Point taken on Milton, Gabriel. Given the technicolor nature of the ad, I'm more led to think, though, that they took it from McCartney than they took it from Milton.

One of these years, the president should just buck tradition, carry the sentence forward and put the turkey to death, on site. That'd be the perfect event for someone like Dubya. Maybe next year.

I was watching the Dog Show and they did a segmant on therapy dogs helping maimed soldiers in rehab recover emotionally, said one soldier whose head was caved in on one side and had scars running down his neck, "Dogs don't care what you look like - they just love you."

I never thought that the Purina dog show would be the ONLY place I'd see these soldiers. Heartbreaking story that needs to be told again and often.

All the condoms in the world aren't going to help in Africa, where - thanks to the Bangui definition of "AIDS" used there - traditional illnesses are renamed as "AIDS"--no "HIV" test required!

Of course, you already knew that, didn't you Mr. Savage.
