It’s Not Delivery, It’s…

posted by on November 6 at 16:20 PM

…well, actually it is delivery, and it’s pot.

An untold number of otherwise law-abiding professionals in New York are having their pot delivered to their homes instead of visiting drug dens or hanging out on street corners.

Among the legions of home delivery customers is Chris, a 37-year-old salesman in Manhattan. He dials a pager number and gets a return call from a cheery dispatcher who takes his order for potent strains of marijuana.

Within a couple of hours, a well-groomed delivery man _ sometimes a moonlighting actor or chef _ arrives at the doorstep of his Manhattan apartment carrying weed neatly packaged in small plastic containers.

“These are very nice, discreet people,” said Chris, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition only his first name be used. “There’s an unspoken trust. It’s better than going to some street corner and getting ripped off or killed.”

That's been going on in NYC forever. A frend of mine just spent the summer working as phone dispatch for one such place.

Many dealers here in SF are more than happy to deliver or send a runner as well, albeit their operations haven't reached Domino's-like proportions yet to the best of my knowledge.

Ah yes. This is one of the main things I miss about New York. All needs are met, and everything is delivered.

Did it take some conniving to post this at precisely 4:20pm?

When my friends went off to college in NY, the ultra-professional, easily accessible weed delivery is probably what amazed them the most. That and the hooker my friend saw doing a guy in Central Park for crack. Those are the kinda things you just don't get on the west coast.

I to am accustomed with this process. I've lived in Olympia for over a year now and everyone I've ever purchased weed from has always offered to deliver the goods.

Whoa... dude! The 4:20 thing? Totally an accident. Wait, there are no accidents. It was... a miracle.

I should mention however, that one of the reasons I pressume these NYC delivery services are able to operate so transparently probably has something to do with a "unless you're creating a nuisance, us cops got better shit to do" mentality - which I totally agree with, but the saturation of violent crime that has a hand in creating that mentality isn't anything Seattle needs to strive for.

As for open air fucking for drug money(post 4), I can tell you that the practice is (unfortnately) alive and well in San Francisco. Probably LA too, but there you gotta drive to see it.

This isn't a New York thing. The same service is offered by quite a number of Seattle entrepreneurs too.

Since I moved to Capital Hill, I haven't had a dealer who would do anything other than deliver. Good dealers, just like anyone else, don't want a bunch of jonesing drug freaks in their home.

The major word here is density. DENSITY.

@12...

Ahh, Slog... where even a discussion about pot turns into a debate about density! :)

I expect Feit to show up any minute now...

Good lord. St Louis could use a service like this. I can't find a decent supply, much less have it delivered.

St Louis sucks sometimes.

The least they could have done was provide an phone number - I just moved to NYC.

Happy to say I've got one delivering, too. Actually the ones who you have to go out and find at their place or somewhere are in my opinion engaging in more risky and obvious behavior than the ones who drop and go.

Text messaging was made for this stuff.

I think a lot of people are missing the details here: Like I mentioned, a lot of dealers are happy to deliver, but it's not like what they got goin' in NYC.

"Hello, can I take your order please?"

"Yes, I'd like a _____ of ________ and an _____ of ___________."

"OK, we can have someone there by 8pm."

"Thank you."

"Have a good evening."
