In Other Elections

posted by on November 8 at 14:25 PM

Voters in six states adopted inflation-indexed increases in the minimum wage, bringing to 24 the number of states (including Washington State) with minimum wages higher than the $5.15 federal minimum.

As the execrable Initiative 933 lost by an overwhelming (42-58) margin, three more “property rights” initiatives that would define land-use laws as “takings” were failing in Idaho and California.

And in Oregon, voters were overwhelmingly rejecting a measure that would require doctors to notify a minor’s parents before she could have an abortion.

Now let’s all turn our attention to the Supreme Court, which heard oral arguments today in the case against the federal late-term abortion ban. (A good summary of the SCOTUS discussion can be found here.)

None of the national news are reporting our defeat of the takings initiative, instead ignoring it.

They just don't want to admit it.

Maybe this is why The Seattle Times endorsed Reichert. Ryan Blethen asked about local ownership and He just passed.

And now that 24 states have a higher minimum wage standard than the Federal government and the Democrats control Congress, Bush says he'll work with them to raise the standard. He really thinks we're that stupid not to notice...

tons of great pro-choice news today:

--In Ohio, pro-choice Rep. Sherrod Brown defeated anti-choice Sen. Mike DeWine, who is one of the Senate's most anti-choice members.

--In Missouri, pro-choice Claire McCaskill beat incumbent Sen. Jim Talent, who supports overturning Roe v. Wade.

--In AZ-08, pro-choice Gabrielle Giffords defeated virulently anti-choice Randy Graf. In PA-07, pro-choice retired Admiral Joe Sestak defeated adamantly anti-choice Rep. Curt Weldon.

--South Dakotans struck down the draconian abortion ban imposed by anti-choice politicians by a 10-point margin.

--Californians struck down Proposition 85, which would have changed the state constitution to impose government-mandated parental notification for young women seeking abortion care, even if it jeopardized their safety.

--Oregonians struck down Measure 43, which would have established mandatory parental notification with no exceptions for victims of rape or incest.
