News From the Forgotten Zone: Another Reassuring Thought

The NYT reports this morning about Tony Blair’s visit (his first!) to Kabul. He made a stop to check in with British troops in the chaotic southern province of Helmand, and came out with this pronouncement:
“Here, in this extraordinary piece of desert, is where the future of world security in the early 21st century is going to be played out,” he told troops at Camp Bastion, the main British base in Helmand.
Not that you’d know it by the policies of leaders like Bush and Blair.
I found it incredibly surreal that Bush was in Vietnam last week giving a speech about how we should stay in Iraq.
No publisher would let you put this in a work of fiction –it’s too insane and unbelievable!
Blair is correct. Unfortunately, due to the spectacular mismanagement of this, the "forgotten war", by the man Blair has such blind faith for, "the future of world security" is going to involve the Taliban running most of Pakistan, and A.Q. Khan's nukes will spread across the jihadist network. Because the process of losing the war in Iraq has ensured that we are going to lose the war in Afghanistan as well. In fact, we already have.

Huh, didn't the Brits say something similar about Afghanistan - in oh, 1839 or so?
