Dan Savage Toasts Rick Santorum’s Defeat

posted by on November 7 at 18:21 PM

Wonkette on Dan Savage: “No one has done more to ruin Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Penn.)’s good name than sex columnist Dan Savage… with the possible exception of Sen. Rick Santorum.”

Now Dan Savage, his work done, celebrates Santorum’s defeat with a glass of champagne.

In other Spitfire news, it’s a madhouse. Joe Leiberman’s victory in CT was loudly booed, and Whitehouse’s victory in RI loudly cheered.

UPDATE: Julie Mason at the Houston Chronicle calls it….

In Pennsylvania, Democrat Bob Casey defeated Republican stalwart Sen. Rick Santorum. Somewhere, advice columnist Dan Savage is ordering champagne.

Wow. Santorum's concession was actually serious gracious. Good for him--he went out with some class.

Santorum brought all of his troubles -- including Dan Savage -- upon himself. But his concession speech was a fine and gracious thing. Kudos, Mr. Senator. And I feel sorry for his kids.

Why is it that for EVERY Republican, my reaction is always "I feel sorry for his kids".

Dan Now that the Santorum mess is all cleaned up you might want to open the windows and use some Fabreez to freshen the air. I hear that stuff leaves a lingering smell.
From Canada Congrats.

Dan, you are a credit to your race. You make me proud to be a homo. Thank you, on behalf of the entire world.

Hopefully the day will come when politicians realize it's suicide to piss off homos.

Who's next on the hit list?

I think the fanatic evangelicals should take some time and head back to churches to do some serious soul searching and praying after this election. Interestingly they might find out that they are actually a closeted meth addicted homosexual them self.

You won't have Santorum to Kick around any more. This is a good thing: it is really hard to get that stuff off your shoe.
It appears the US is turning from the brink.

Hope all of you militant "gays" realize that Santorum was ousted because of the war, not because a majority of people think two men should be married.

Santorum is gone.

BUT his counterpart in the House, MARILYN MUSGRAVE (R-Colo.) survived !!!

Marilyn Musgrave, lead sponsor of the anti-gay marriage amendment, failed to win a majority of votes. She took about 46 percent to Paccione’s 43 percent; a third-party candidate won 11 percent.

Musgrave made gay marriage a centerpiece of her campaign, despite the fact that the U.S. is currently fighting two wars. She was helped by the introduction of two gay-related measures on the Colorado ballot, one to ban same-sex marriage and another to grant gay couples domestic partnership rights. The marriage ban passed and the DP measure has been trailing badly.

MARILYN MUSGRAVE will be a good target now that Santorum is gone.

My goodness, what an ego.

While I'm sure there were a handful of Dan Savage readers who because of his inky and pixelated hissings crawled out from behind their keyboards to vote dramatically and self-righteously against this pitiful dick-smack, that's not what lost Santorum the election.

Nor won it for the het megabreeder anti-abortion Catholic Casey.

What lost Santorum the election was the focused, unceasing, extended efforts of grass-roots, on-the-ground people in Philly who registered, organized, fund-raised, held costume parties, wrote Philly-humor-saturated info campaigns...in short who turned out the vote on Tuesday.

They knew that a record turnout among Philly's poor and working classes would be close to enough to defeat Bibleboy--the carpetbagger from VA--if not enough.

They were right.

And my fifty bucks from Pugetopolis, and my Philadelphians Against Santorum window sign made me feel good, and might have paid for something back home. But it was folks like my long-dead Philly family who made that outcome happen. They knew that Santorum didn't give a rat's ass about people like us, and they opened a can of You SO History on his ass.

How about you give credit where it's due? Philly's people have been shat on in a thousand ways...yet still show the nation how to do grass-roots politics.

And they don't even need national columns, or identity politics, or anything. Most of them got up Wed. morning and went back to scrubbing toilets, driving buses, and fixing sewers. No self-congratulation.

By the way, Philly lost a beloved native son today: journalist Ed Bradley. Raised by his mom, humble ed degree from Cheyney State, and a really decent man. Always had time for young black men and women aspiring to journalism. He knew he was dying when he did the 50th anniversary piece on Emmett Till.

Fuck you. (Philadelphiaspeak for "Seeya" or "I love you" or "Go away," or "Smell ya later" or "Where did someone with such a small dick get such a big head?" or "Nice ass")
