BAGHDAD, Iraq, Nov. 24 — Defying a government-imposed curfew, Shiite militiamen stormed Sunni mosques in central Iraq today, shooting guards and burning down buildings in apparent retaliation for a series of devastating car bombs that killed hundreds of people the previous day in a Shiite slum, residents and police officials said.

As the death toll from those bombings rose above 200, gunmen drove through several neighborhoods in Baghdad and the nearby provincial capital of Baquba, taking aim at mosques with automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades on the Muslim holy day, when many Iraqis go to mosques to pray.

Wow, things have really gone out of control there.

From the AP:

Residents of the troubled district claim the Mahdi Army has begun kidnapping and holding Sunni hostages to use in ritual slaughter at the funerals of Shiite victims of Baghdad's raging sectarian war.

Such claims cannot be verified but speak to the deep fear that grips Baghdad, where retaliation has become a part of daily life.

Realize also that these are not just mosques they are attacking, but extremely sacred primary religious sites. The Sunnis bombed Shia's holiest mosque in Karbala, and some of the Sunni sites in Baghdad are second only to Mecca and Medina in importance their followers. This is an orgy of hate and destruction that boggles the mind.

like the Mayans ,they will terrorize and sacrifice eachother for religious purposes till they cease to exist. They'll just be a legacy and it'll be on there heads. We should get the hell ouyt of there now, because no amount of peace is ever going to exist there.
We are not a nation of Borgs,we cannot assimilate democracy where democracy was never meant to exist. The middle East is hell on earth and will always rightfully be so. Its their own damned fault. They shoulda stayed Zorastrians or whatever they were before Islam.

I guess the sunnis are knee deep in shiite. Hmmmmm, I guess that I was wrong when I though violent diarreah was the worst type of shiite.
