Dan,
You keep changing bars. I can't find you.

Damn, that guy is good at what he does. Arrogantly telling the interviewer not to be arrogant, making people obediantly believe they're coming to their own conclusions, telling people they should demand proof of things they believe and getting them to think that the existence of the bible is proof that its contents are true. It's not at all surprising he would pay for gay sex. For him, there's no connection between reality and what comes out of his mouth. I don't think he's even consciously cynically using religion to hold on to his power - if he is, he's a theatrical genius - I think he just doesn't draw a connection between the real world and what he believes about the real world.

Shit, that "art" is more homoerotic than most gay porno. And they're just now figuring out this clown is gay?

Harper's did a long article last year about Pastor Ted and his church, with mention of the homoerotic art.
http://www.harpers.org/SoldiersOfChrist.html

From the article:
"My favorite is The Vessel, by Thomas Blackshear, a major figure in the evangelical-art world. Here in the World Prayer Center is a print of The Vessel, a tall, vertical panel of two nude, ample-breasted, white female angels team-pouring an urn of honey onto the shaved head of a naked, olive-skinned man below. The honey drips down over his slab-like pecs and his six-pack abs into the eponymous vessel, which he holds in front of his crotch. But the vessel can't handle that much honey, so the sweetness oozes over the edges and spills down yet another level, presumably onto our heads, drenching us in golden, godly love. Part of what makes Blackshear's work so compelling is precisely its unabashed eroticism; it aims to turn you on, and then to turn that passion toward Jesus."

Seriously though, Dawkins needs to tone it down just a little bit. I agree with about 95% of his views but can't get behind his confrontational tone. You can see him twiching as Haggart takes him to task for arrogance.

That said, what a loon. This might be as big or bigger than Mark Foley. Feet of clay, as we used to say in the evangelical church. Feet of clay, and crumbling!

Haggard reminds me so much of an uglier version of this Catholic guy I fucked a few times in college. Like Haggard, he was totally homophobic. I know, I know, why fuck someone like that -- but he was cute and he had a super nice cock that could get hard in seconds.

He would draw images based on gay porn -- like a masturbating guy with rippling abs coming all over his own belly -- and spruce it up with Christian images like a big cross looming over him. Totally reminds me of the "art" in Haggard's church. Way fucked up.

I stopped seeing him as suddenly as he decided orgasms and penetration were off limits.

The art is HOT. I'm way into the Jesus-on-man action. Can you imagine if it was hanging up in a gay bar? The Christian right would be up in arms.

Wow. If you look at that "vessel" one from a distance, it really looks exactly like a cock - the vein of gold down the center, the symmetrical folds of robes/skin, the glowing bulb at the end...

And it looks like Christ is right in the middle of taking that young man from behind, hence his weak knees...

And is that Mark Foley watching over our children???

As a liberal Cristian (yes they exist) he makes my skin crawl. the Bible doesn't contradict it's self, BS.

Also I looked at some of that guy who made the "gay christian" art and found this.

That is some gay gay art.

But Dawkins was a total ass in his interview. Like David's post above, I agree with most of Dawkins' views, but he just came across as some know-it-all punk and yes, was very arrogant. He fails to prove his point because of it, imho.

But hooray for a new scandal taking Kerry's slip off the front pages, and involving homosexuals but NO underage kids (um, unless Ted has more skeletons in that closet he's been hanging out in).

Very nice neo-Symbolist pieces. I like them. I definitely see influences there from Carlos Schwabe, Fernand Khnopff, Gustav Klimt, Elihu Vedder, and Simeon Solomon. I especially like the piece with the guardian angel and the spear. Is the artist (or artists) named somewhere?

But, right: don't know about Schwabe or Klimt, but Khnopff, Vedder, and Solomon were decidedly and (for the times) openly gay. Solomon, like Oscar Wilde, served prison time for gay sex.

Someone should show this stuff to Bram Dijkstra, author of Idols of Perversity. He might have fun with it.

I like the one where Jesus is doing the hot guy from behind. I'd hand that on my wall.

I couldn't see the golden honey vessel one because the window wouldn't let me scroll down. :(

Isn't this the same Ted Haggard that was going all righteous in the recent documentary Jesus Camp?

Doesn't the hot guy that Jesus is doing from behind look just like Scott Bakula?

side note: from known evidence ,users, discovery channel etc etc Meth enhances ones abiltiy to make judgements even though profound they are still pshychologically sound and inwardly reflect as well as outwardly reflect on ones own soul and inhibitions, exspecially with a first time user, more so than a sober mind.
